Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reunited the kangaroo with its owner after its proper registration was verified.
In a list of things you wouldn’t expect to see hopping around a Florida apartment complex, a kangaroo would come pretty near the top.
Yet that’s what one astonished resident in Tampa found early Thursday morning, according to aerial night vision footage showing the creature making its way around a pool area.
Police also released the audio of the unlikely emergency call.
“911, do you need police, fire or medical?” the dispatcher asks. The caller replies: “I guess police, because there’s a kangaroo in my apartment complex.”
“It’s kind of a large kangaroo — we’ve got it closed into the pool gated area,” the dispatcher is heard to say on the call, updating other emergency responders on the case.
There’s all sorts of creatures in Florida that don’t belong here. People just get tired of their pets and let them go. This probably isn’t the weirdest thing that happened today.
And the most obvious example is Burmese pythons in the Florida Everglades.
The pythons have become apex. They have eaten gators.
The opposite happens too.

Basically, the entire ecosystem in Florida is severely fucked up.
I remember this from an Everglades tour- At one point, they planted trees in the Everglades that were known for soaking up water so they could develop the land, but they didn’t soak up enough water and now they’re just an invasive species.
That is so Florida.
I can’t wait until the salt water and seaweed mountains inundate the entire state.
