Is Tildes a fediverse instance? I swear I read that they are, but I don’t seem to see them federating.

No, that seems like it wouldn’t jive with what they’re trying to accomplish at all.
Tildes is not federated and also in an invite-only beta. Regardless I still recommend giving them a quick check, there’s no harm in using multiple websites and I feel that the discussion quality at tildes.net is very high quality. Much better than what was on a lot of Reddit, but it is also very different from Reddit or Lemmy / Kbin for that matter.
They’re not. It’s a stand alone link aggregator.
