I’ll try not to spam this, but please, DT, don’t sleep on tinned fish. It has a strange historical bad rap. But holy shit… As a recent convert… It’s insanely tasty and consistent and CHEAP. Sardines are literally a superfood you can get from Coles for next to nothing. Give them a fucking chance. Herring too. But the main point is to give tinned fish a chance - i truely believe that were currently in a time where it is undervalued, underpriced. Get ahead of the curve friends. I’ll share basic recipes if you like, but I pretty much just eat them with chopsticks over the sink

I have been a sardie and kipper convert for many years now. You are singing my song. Tuna can get in the bin.
One of these days (if you are very good) I shall confide at least some of the secrets of baccala. Which is fish bacon or as close as anything can be to that. Your world will be changed. Not as cheap as sardies though.

Also I agree re: tuna. How is that the most popular tinned fish??? Is garbage. Sure it’s macronutrients are good… But the taste and texture is so lame comparatively

Candied salmon? An improvement on candied tuna, but not by much. Give me sardies or herring any day. I will accept tinned red salmon in a tray bake or as part of a starry gazey pie. In a salad? Maybe.

As much as I enjoy smoked mussels on bikkies or a bit of tinned salmon tossed through pasta, it’s not worth fighting the cat over them. He strongly believes that Food In Tins Is For Cats. Sometimes it turns out to be corn, or tomatoes, and he’s annoyed and disappointed, but sardines he will absolutely do battle for.

      An occasional work treat only.

I haven’t gotten to the ones I bought the other day. Just that I enjoyed the the herrings from Aldi a lot and they were cheap as well.

Yes I know you’re disappointed that I haven’t gotten to the kippers yet.
