I’ve just installed this. If there wasn’t an official news release (thanks for the link) I would have thought this was fake.

There’s no NFL. Under My Teams, you can’t select one of your teams to get information about them. There’s no games scheduled for today, and nothing shown for yesterday. No spring training MLB. And, most importantly, there’s no Widget.

Thanks, this is super interesting, but I’ll stick with TheScore for now.

Well that’s disappointing. Sounds like they just wanted to check a box for a “value add” on Apple News rather than actually making something useful.

And, most importantly, there’s no Widget.

Not the first Apple first party app to lack widget support. The Home app only just got dedicated widgets in iOS 17.

Hopefully this is good, I’m tired of ESPN trying to force me to watch a 30 second ad just to view a 15 second long highlight.

Hopefully they move the sports content in the news app over to this one. Don’t use the news app a ton but it bothers me that sports gets the center tab when I’m not at all a sports person.

Interesting to see this drop with a press release without much fanfare. Perhaps a sign of sports content coming to Apple TV+? There’s been on and off rumours about them bidding for sports rights.

Disney are also trying to start a new sports streaming service with some other sports networks. It would be great to see more options in the area.
