Some friends and I just finished a rewatch. This is the understatement of the century.

The show tries so hard to have something meaningful to say over its runtime, but never really gets beyond “War is bad, but total pacifism doesn’t work either”.

Every character’s motivations and goals are always nebulous, and their interactions with one another are so overdramatic that it feels almost like an amateur stage play.

If you want to get a feel for the tone of the show.

I always felt that if you developed the story underneath the simple dialogue the concepts provide a pretty good story. But this was in the transition period where a lot of animes were still treated as kids cartoons and purposely simplified their dialogue for a wider audience.

Man, there are so many layers to the “WTF is going on here” in such a short scene, it’s impressive

I always loved shoving a guy out of an airplane, then shooting him in the head as he dropped. That was a really good shot.

It does have things to say about war becoming a push button affair, which is highly relevant in this age of drones.

It is, though I’m more of a victory fan. That Gundam is a damn trip

Something I didn’t notice when I could only watch an episode a week: each gundam has like 1-2 battle animation sequences, so basically when there are battles they just swap the backgrounds and use the same animation lol

Relena: Here’s an invitation to my birthday party

Heero: I’m gonna kill you. I’m gonna straight up murder you, bitch.

      (They later get married)

…it’s actually pretty similar to Twilight, wow.

Reminds me of the end of Rubber with the mannequin with the bombs strapped to it.
