A landmark case was won in 2021 ruling against the rights of a mining company to mine los cedros’ cloud forest, a high altitude rainforest, because it would harm the biodiversity of the area.
All of the permits issued were canceled upon the ruling.
It’s awesome.
Its a nice idea, but it doesn’t stop them from drilling and mining in the Amazon Jungle.
It’s a nice legal framework that has continually resulted in the vast and comprehensive preservation of natural resources.
And yes, legal victories based on nature rights literally stops drilling in the Amazon:

The point is that it can be an example for other areas and countries to follow. Lake Erie towns, Grant Township PA and other American towns are also pushing for nature rights.
So is new Zealand and other countries.
It just did?
Nature has had constitutional rights for many years, yet new mining and drilling projects have been approved since then.
Its great to have, but weather or not a project gets stopped just depends how much money is to be made and who ia paid off, unfortunately
