To be fair, the 2020 election was won by a left wing conspiracy to oust Donald Trump. In fact, it was the biggest left wing conspiracy in history. Over 81 million Americans conspired to vote that fat cunt out of office.

A headline that has been true for at least 50 years.

Me: it hasn’t been that long! It started with Nixon!

Also me: Nixon was president in 1973, which was 50 years ago, dumbass.

Also also me: Now you’re going to tell me that the 90s were more than 10 years ago, aren’t you?

I see we share a sense of time. I also think events from the early 00’s happened a “couple years back.”

My daughter called the 90s “a long time ago” the other day. I said to her, “what?! The 90s were yesterday!” She’s 13, she doesn’t understand the challenges of being 2 Legit 2 Quit.

As odious as they are, the GOP at least sees and respects its base. And, they are delivering on a political project. We see Trump as a buffoon; they understand him as the first Republican president to actually understand the base and want to make it happy.

The DNC, DCCC, DGA, etc., love their donor class and the encrusted Dem managerial and consulting class that serves their interests. They don’t hear or respect their base, and they will do anything they can to kneecap the base when it wants to move left, up to and including pumping money into primary races on the side of anti-choice candidates against fully electable progressive challengers preferred by the base.

Thus, there is no left political project. In the language of European politics, we have solely have a choice between a center-right Christian Democratic Party and a fascist National Front party.

I don’t know that the right listens to their base so much as they have identified ideas they can exploit. They rally around political hot button topics that drive turn out and engagement.

As far as the democrats go, I can’t really argue with you there.

We need to dismantle the underlying system that allows a two party, money driven electoral system to exist. How you do that when it requires the cooperation of both parties is a question I don’t have the answer to.

        Definitely

Republicans don’t try to help their base

They just try not to make it obvious that they’re making their lives worse

The DNC respects it’s base. You just probably think more of the base are moving left than there really are. Reddit users, and now here, seem to exist in such a closed echo chamber they think their highly minority point of view is actually popular outside of their circles. It’s not. Most votinf Democrats are still moderate, which is well represented by the party today. There are fringe progressives that exist in the party (which is not remotely a new thing) and get about as much represntation as they should.

You know how to get a party to listen to your issues?

Vote the ones that don’t listen out of office.

But then you’d have to engage, vote, organize, and compromise, instead of complain on the internet.

I read the entire article, and all of those shenanigans are being passed in red states, which overwhelmingly vote republican anyway. They disallowed the use of college ID as voter ID in Idaho, but that’s completely moot – Idaho was never going to vote blue anyway.

They’re trying to prevent the oncoming wave of minority and young people that vote overwhelming blue. If motivated enough they’ll swing states like Georgia and Arizona.

From AZ, I never vote red. But I still try to research my candidates. We just swung blue I hope we don’t go back. But we very possibly could. The constant feed of brain rot on the TVs at the office I work at is insane and its a primary source of this polarization we see today. They just listen to heads all day that spew nothing but hate. I turn the TVs off with my flipper zero as I pass by.

I live in Idaho, the Boise area is very blue, and I honestly think we could swing the state if the mormon population could be convinced to stop supporting hateful people like trump. I’m exmormon and even though I really don’t like the church they generally teach tolerance and love, even if its “muttering about sins and shit under your breath” kind of love. Romney is a good example of mormons who have a breaking point with the modern GOP (so is my mother, who is mormon and votes blue) and I hope more reach it this election. It’s a long shot but its never impossible.

I’m exmormon (41 years a member) and I think you live in a bubble. I believe over 75% or more of mormons are Trump MAGA cultists who don’t put their money where there mouth is, and look at love and compassion towards their own cult members as totally different than doing the same with politics. Fuck Mormons. The are one of the most hypocritical groups around.

Well I’m certainly in a unique spot with my mom, and she is involved in a lot of groups where mormon or exmormon parents call for more lgbtq acceptance and equality, so fair point. I suppose I just wish they’d follow their own teachings rather than be so cruel while claiming its all about love.

The idiots are being manipulated in cults and are pushing twice as hard compared to other demographics to get their guy in. Meanwhile a majority of average people are straight up not bothering with the process at all. We’re really not good at governing ourselves past a certain size, because we only care about the stuff that directly affect us. The cults are merely providing fake issues to get the idiots out.
