Psst . . . New York Times . . . I think they’re talking to you
No one cares about Trump’s threats because he is a fuckin dope. We all know the only threat posed is stochastic terrorism from his indoctrinated followers.
If we didn’t have first past the post and the electoral college we could all safely be laughing at how fucking moronic that dude is.
Instead, we have to have a slim chance he gets a second term of fucking the country up.
It’s fucking embarrassing as a “world power.” No one should trust us because our electoral system is this fucking dumb.
But the media reporting on them keeps him in the publics mind. It should be a small print thing on the second page or 20 seconds of every news segment called “Trump Lies again” don’t show his face, quickly detail the lie and then move on.
Media secretly misses Trump.
As do a lot of Reddit and now Lemmy users it seems.
The nature of bad faith is that there is no right answer. Do you constantly cover the deluge of bullshit, giving The Idiot’s awful messages endless time on the front page? Or do you try reporting on literally anything else and miss the thirty-seven actionable threats he’s made since last week?
I think giving him more of a platform is just a bad move. Just like Internet trolls, we should largely ignore him but at the same time make sure some of us are keeping track of the lies.
I’m definitely against when MSNBC invites five people to yap about whatever bullshit he just said, like its awfulness takes explaining. Obliquely describe it and move the fuck on.
Reporting on what Trump says at this point is akin to trolling. We have years of evidence that what happens is maybe 20% of what he says. Breathlessly reporting everything he says is crying wolf.
What should be done is reporting on the common themes instead of quotes. Trump isn’t going to deport illegal immigrants to the moon, but he likely would try to deport even more than in the past. He’s not going to disappear Biden onto some prison, but he might force a pointless investigation into criminal charges.
Last Friday, Trump shared an image of President Biden bound and gag, hog-tied, in the back of a pickup truck.
This is inaccurate. It was a custom tailgate of a truck, with a bad photoshop that made it look like Biden was bound and gagged. I’ve seen one around my neck of the woods so I know it’s something you can buy, but I’m not going to link to it.
But my mom bought a Trump toilet brush. It’s fun to use. If Biden showed a clip of I filmed of me using it, is that “OMG BIDEN WANTS TRUMP DROWNED IN A TOILET?”
This shit is what I hate about political reporting.
Post the link
Jon Stewart On The False Promises of AI | The Daily Show Timestamp around 1:10 for the image itself. The first 3 minutes covers it then transitions into the AI segment. The image itself was rather ridiculously overblown by the media with their rhetoric, but I believe any political candidate publishing media depicting violence on another political rival should come with consequences.
I just meant the link to the pic, but this works. Thanks!
It’s literally linked in the article. You can click through and see it yourself.
Got it, thanks!
