I have the new upgrade, but have been using flamer vs bugs since I learned the leg trick vs Chargers.
These two were not full hp chargers, first one had less than 50%, and the second about 75% hp - likely gotten hit by the bile spewers on the yonder.
That said, it’s a great weapon, and I either have it, or Napalm with me on most bug missions. Wish it could penetrate Bile Titans, but alas, I’ve used 3+ canisters (on a stomach cleared) BT without being able to kill it, and that’s the reason I mostly opt for the Quasar these days (1 shot Charger, 2 shot Titan), when doing 7/9 diff.
Yeah I tried the flamethrower against level 7 bugs last night. It worked, it’s just not as effective as the Quasar or EAT. It’s so freaking cool though!

Flamer still feels so much cooler.
