For anyone not in the know, Joel is the Helldivers game master, who is in charge of guiding the narrative and creating new major orders.
Joel hates Democracy! Joel hates Freedom! Joel is the true puppet master!
Shhhh! The Democracy Officer might hear you!
Me: playing like a scrub
Also, me: Damn you, Joel!
In all fairness, there are no actual repercussions for simply sitting an Order out. Essentially, this is no different than two average difficulty Orders at half payout. 🤪 Besides, I’m grinding the 25k et al (x2) for Atmospheric Monitoring and XXL Weapon Bays, and ain’t got time for cosmetic awards rn. 🤘🏽
Well, by sitting an order out you don’t contribute to its progress at all, which has some difficult to quantify effect on the success or failure of the mission, which has a direct effect on what types of planets are available to play on during the next cycle.
Doesn’t really matter on a single person scale, but if the community as a whole hates an order or something and a large amount sit out it would definitely effect what comes next.
Yes, of course, though I was referring to the comic beatdown above. The easy Order was suuuper easy, and the follow-up is nearly impossible. So, effectively, we’ve gotten the 45pts we’re gonna get for the time span of both, does that make sense?
That does make sense, it sounded like you were speaking broadly about all orders, not this specific situation
I think the reward is basically the same as if it were just one order in the same time scale as the other orders. The last one was supposed to take 6 days. So it would’ve been a 45 medal reward after 6 days. But instead we completed it in less than a day, so they added a 6 day order. If we fail, it’ll be a 45 medal reward over 7 days, which isn’t that bad.
It’s not like they made us wait the full time for the last major order.
This 'diver gets it. Double rations for this one, boys! He’s leading the next drop to glory!!
Honestly the major orders just tell me where to deploy, but I like reading the lore and updates about what’s going on with the front lines.
I’ve been enjoying slaughtering bugs and the new defense rocket mission (definitely only of my favorite game modes! I love it)
Same! I’m not chasing the meta as much as some, but I chalk that up to the Personal Orders being entertaining in their own right; either I get to focus on a weapon/strat I already have access to (flamethrower, HE barrage, etc.) or an activity I’ve enjoyed the hell outta before (hunting hunters, etc.), or it’s a decent enough reason to buy one I’m missing/try something new.
I have no problems with the General Orders being hit or miss as it feels more like there’s an incalculably enormous war going on outside of my bubble, and most times I have the tiniest effect on its success — but, when I do? Oh hell yeah, I’m there!
