One of the challenges (and benefits) of the Fediverse is the existence of duplicate communities.
What purpose does this community serve that the larger and more active [email protected] does not?

I follow multiple “duplicates”, because what happens when a server goes down?
What happens if a server ceases to exist?
It is a little weird sometimes, but ultimately, I’d rather everyone not flock to a single “popular” instance of everything only to have that…oh I dunno, get Steve Huffman’d.
Yeah, multiple “duplicates” are definitely beneficial to ensure long-term survival of communities, but unless every post and comment is mirrored across instances, content will always be lost whenever a server ceases to exist.
Is there an established Lemmy etiquette for what should be done in the cases of communities fragmented across multiple instances? Post to all instances? Just the largest? Just the smallest? Pick one at random and cross-post to others?
