I’ve made something similar for my cousin (the only vegan I have in my life tbh). Looking at the recipe, this should be absolutely stellar. Serious flavor, great textures.
I would, however, recommend avoiding liquid smoke. Over powers the peas, and the smoked paprika is plenty
I just made this tonight and left out the liquid smoke. It was a hit with the whole family including some who had never had black eyed peas before.

I totally agree and always leave it out on recipes. It is too strong for me.
