For those not in the loop, Spitz was the Helldiver’s Community Manager who was fired yesterday allegedly for telling players to leave negative reviews in response to the Sony PSN fiasco.

He did a bad job of parroting the company line by dismissing people’s feedback, then when he understood he did the right thing by getting complaints focused where they would have the most effect in the steam reviews.

Quickest redemption arc I’ve ever seen. Not sure doing one thing right is enough for me to get invested.

To be fair, he was fired right after the one thing. Not very much of a chance to do more.

No, he had already been warned before for other community shit he had been doing and how he treated people, he was already on the rope, it’s crazy how people are making him a hero out of nowhere.

There also is not an expectation that he will continue to do better in the future based on past history not being that great and the fact that he was fired for doing the good thing. If he had been advocating for the players prior and then got fired for the one thing it would be different.

honestly, hitting someone in their pockets is the only way for a company to respond, and I doubt the reversal on their policy would have happened if the flood of negative reviews did not happen. it sucks this guy lost his job for telling us what we should all know as consumers by now.

Honestly he seemed just like any other person working customer service who got fed up. He was powerless to make any real change, so was stuck between company policies and angry customers. Eventually, he seemed to just throw up his hands and go, “bitching at me won’t change anything, here’s how you get to the people in charge!”

Since it’s also come out that the head of the CM team knew about this ahead of time and didn’t prepare the team for it, I can’t really blame them at all for poorly handling a shitstorm that should have been prepared for by their manager. The head of CM should be gone as well, if not instead of Spitz.

Spitz wasn’t the one making false sexual assault accusations about community members and advocates in the middle of the shitstorm either. And last I checked that CM is still there. Spitz was at least pretty on topic with his comments.

What’s the story there? I haven’t heard that yet.

I haven’t looked too far into it, thought it was one of the CMs, apparently it was a discord mod. Not sure if there is a distinction between the two with how Arrowhead handles their community management or just a difference in name on the platform vs job title.

Purple squidgeon, accused Mark Kern (Grummz) of sexual assault and harassment. Mark is very vocal about a lot of things in the industry, and so is a target of a lot of negativity in general. But either way, it’s unrelated to comments about PSN linking requirements.

If Grummz isn’t far right, why are they using Elon Musk’s Nazi platform Xitter and not any number of open source, non-nazi alternatives such as Mastodon or Bluesky? I am automatically inclined to believe any Xitter user is a conservative.

That is so incredibly stupid i don’t have the words for it. Twitter is shit, but it’s still the only real platform to reach out to large masses of people.

And whose fault is that? It’s the fault of people who still use Twitter in 2024. Twitter is a platform for reaching out to people who don’t think a platform being owned by a Nazi is so bad that they won’t use it. That SHOULD be a tiny minority of people. But instead, it’s the largest plurality of people apparently, because people suck and a lot of them are Nazi apologists. Including Grummz.
