Trump was booed especially loudly when he called for the Libertarian Party to nominate him, instead of its own candidate, in the election.

Or you can just keep getting your three percent

Not that I care, but what the fuck was your plan here? Just roasting libertarians for the fun of it?

Which to be fair, is a hobby of mine.

He thought he could roll in and get their endorsement over their own candidate.

Say what you want about the Libertarians, they are not the drooling idiots of the MAGA crowd.

I mean I have different opinions than most Libertarians but I applaud the true Libertarian POV of “leave me the fuck alone”

If I lived alone on an island, I’d probably be one too.

But, considering the government (Republican or Democratic) will take whatever the fuck they want from my wages and then gouge me again on sales tax, I just want to dump as much of those taxes into helping others and the rest can go to helping to maintain and expand green spaces as well as infrastructure and roads.

Fun fact: most libertarians don’t want to be left alone. They don’t want to be regulated. They still want a society with rules, they just want those rules to be whatever they decide works for them, without regard to whether those rules would fuck over someone else.

Some so-called libertarians actually do want to live apart from society but at that point they’re just antisocial. Because being libertarian means you need to be part of a group, which is antithetical to the ethos of being left alone.

Both of these cohorts are no fun at parties.

Social libertarian, so many here seem to forget this label exists.

In honestly though, labels are fucking stupid. No one can directly fit under any of them, without a “but” clause stating the shit they don’t agree with.

There was zero plan as usual. The thing is, imagine what’s going to happen after Trump. Imagine someone who is actually charismatic and smart in Trump’s place who tows the same basic line. That’s what really scares me

I see this sentiment often, which has afforded me the chance to reflect on it. The hypothetical smarter, shrewder, Trump-like candidate would likely hold less appeal to the party. As it stands, aspiring connivers operate under the belief that they can exert enough control to get what they want, consequences be damned. Essentially, they are gambling that they can act as the ego to his id on matters that they prioritize. A more intelligent candidate would certainly have a higher degree of agency and thus would be of less value to the manipulators. Trump, and those who resemble him, are the most dangerous sort.

This is the best answer I’ve been able to formulate as to why those who present as fools and dunces form the face of the MAGA movement. These people are useful idiots who garner support from interested parties focused on specific goals.

I mean, in a way it would be a good move for the libertarians to do something like that for a year, as getting over certain thresholds unlocks more election funding.

Then again, the libertarian party doing something to get more government funding isn’t exactly ideologically consistent.

Article is def worth the read, short fast and made me smile.

Trump took the stage to “thunderous” boos, and ended his speech in a similar fashion this weekend.

Trump was booed especially loudly when he called for the Libertarian Party to nominate him, instead of its own candidate, in the election.

Trump repeated the nomination request as he left the stage, as well, resulting in some very loud boos as he stepped away from the podium.

Sounds like a hoot from start to finish!

It’s crazy this asshole is going to win again. Biden has done exponentially more for Americans than Trump but he’s still going to lose.

This is how Biden wins the election.

Not by convincing leftists to vote for Biden, but by convincing potential Trump supporters to not vote for Trump. For this election, “centrists” and “social liberal fiscal conservatives” matter a lot more than anyone here.

Say you’re a libertarian. It’s one corrupt big goverment guy running against another. Why vote for the guy who just insulted your beliefs? Doesn’t that make you one of his “cucks”?

      Well said.

The number of users here who think far left protest non-votes matter more in this election than centrists/moderates and disillusioned conservative Republicans is bordering on comical.

This election will come down to the usual suspects lately:

Moderates in PA, MI, WI, GA, NV, and AZ.

Personally, I’m predicting overall lower turnout than 2020 and it’s more a matter of which candidate motivates their centrist voters from 4 years ago in these locations to actually get out and vote again.

Given their track records, it is my prediction that centrist Biden voters from 2020 will be more likely to stay loyal and motivated than centrist Trump voters from the same time frame…who now have his trials as well as the Jan. 6th debacle, weighing on their minds. Further, I feel like the trump campaign has greater enthusiasm but among a smaller core, whereas the Biden camp has lukewarm enthusiasm among a broader set…and since a lukewarm vote has as much impact as a zealous one, the calculus favors Biden in that regard.

So both guys get fewer votes overall than they did 4 years ago…but the amount that each one loses (and where) is what decides things. And if that’s how it plays out, I think the map is going to look very similar to the last go-round. I think Biden is least safe in AZ (depending on how the conversation about the border plays out) and GA (which is just the battleground in the country right now, it seems). I think he’s safest in Michigan, and the remaining states of WI and PA I’d say lean Biden but are certainly in play. I’m not as familiar with Wisconsin, but Pennsylvania has handed Democrats more and more wins since the last time, most importantly in the midterms, when Pennsylvanians gave Democrats the majority in the state house in 2022 for the first time in ages.

So, barring any major shakeup in the campaigns, I feel like just looking at the Xs and Os, every state votes the way it did 4 years ago, except MAYBE the states Biden flipped. Of those, I feel Michigan and Pennsylvania stay blue.

If those two predictions are correct, Biden can even lose Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin, and still end up with 270 electoral votes to Trump’s 268, and still narrowly win. While I’d like a fatter margin, I feel it’s a wholly reasonable scenario that Biden carries every state Clinton did in 2016, plus two of the 5 battleground states he picked up in 2020.

How was he even planning to win them over? He’s not even a conservative Republican. Libertarians are split down the middle between Democrat and Republican, sharing the Democrat’s stance on civil liberty, and Republican’s stance on fiscal conservatism. Depending on an individual’s weight on social vs. economic policy, coupled with the well lubricated authoritarian slip n’ slide of the right, there’s honestly a better chance we’d see some defect left.

Because if nothing sticks, man the justice system is going to fucking grind his ass up. That or he flees the country. That man has used nearly every delay tactic the justice system can afford a person. A two time loser is going to have a very difficult time convincing them to give him a third chance.

He’ll tell them he’s being hassled in court by the gummit - which they obviously don’t like. See. THEN - okay here’s that patented trump jenius coming out: Then he tells them “If I wasn’t a Libertarian before - I AM NOW!!” which he expected to get a huge ovation for but got mostly a half-second of “wtf” followed by a louder version of whatever it was he was getting before.
