Xbox will literally kill their hardware sales for their next generation (if they even have one) if they announce they’re putting more games on PlayStation. They would be handing a monopoly of the premium console market directly to Sony, because you know Sony will absolutely NOT be putting any of their exclusives on Xbox.

    Especially Halo.

Remember, the money is in the service, not the hardware. Battle pass on Playstation is a printer for money tapping a new market.

Didn’t Square Enix just announce they’re not doing PS exclusives anymore and will be releasing all their games on Xbox too? Seems like the movement is coming from both directions. Next generation consoles are still years away, regardless

Square isn’t owned by Sony. But it doesn’t matter if Xbox removes any reason to even buy their hardware.

Sony is definitely not putting Spiderman, Bloodborne/DeSouls, Helldivers 2, Horizon, God of War, etc on Xbox. They will probably end up bankrupt before they even consider it.

I think the writing is on the wall at this point. Console sales aren’t great, and are losing their relevance. Most consoles share the same architecture and it looks like Microsoft is focusing more on making content much like Netflix does. That’s probably why they bought (and will keep buying) big game studios and publishers.

Do the kids still care about halo? Hasn’t it been milked for all it’s worth and become boomer shit already?

The kids? Boomer? How old are you, 13? Halo couldn’t possibly be for “boomers,” I doubt many boomers actually know what Halo even is.

Regardless, my point remains. Xbox would be killing their hardware completely if they remove their only reasons that people buy Xbox. For many people, myself included, Halo is why I bought Xbox in 2001 and still to this day. If PlayStation has Xbox’s biggest IPs, what’s even the point of buying Xbox hardware anymore? Sony won’t put their exclusives on Xbox.

So when everyone goes to buy a game console their only choice is PlayStation. And with no real competition in the console market (no, Nintendo is not competing with their mid-range Android phone hardware), Sony can do the PS3 launch pricing all over again. And there is no competition to lower prices for consumers.

Game Pass really, that’s the service MS is betting on. Sure, GP could come to other competing major consoles, but it’s just going to be xcloud.

To run any GP game, natively, is likely to remain with needing an Xbox console or PC for a long long time. And the first major console will probably be on something from Nintendo, just like it’ll be a cold day in hell before Sony releases any of their s-tier first party stuff on Xbox it’ll be the second cold day in hell before they allow GP on their console.

Have you never heard people calling old things boomer shit? Boomer shooter rings a bell? Even if halo isn’t as old as those, it’s still more than 2 decades old. Perhaps xbox’s issue is that most of their biggest ips (including the ones they acquired) are 2 decades old

Nintendo’s biggest IP, Mario, is at least 4 decades old, what’s your point? How is the age of an IP an issue?

Nintendo has a different audience, just look at the comment above.

Edit: they also have less competition in their genres in comparison to the countless fps games halo needs to compete with

It will never be the year of Linux.

The year of Linux was when Intel decided to fully support its hardware using in-house developers in upstream open source projects (Linux kernel, Mesa). Then pretty much everyone else followed. That was ages ago and now Linux is everywhere.
