More or less, this is exactly what I was expecting. Quick-fire scenes with added content to connect them, plus a bit of reshuffling to make the episode flow a little better. Surprised by the scene they chose to open on, but it makes sense. I am happy.

I worry with adaptations of series with short chapters like this, that the constant cutting and transitioning will turn people off. Sometimes the transitions can be quite jarring and pull viewers out of it. This episode wasn’t too bad about it which gives me hope that people will stick with it. One of the worst at this I have seen was probably “The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch” where they would have transition scenes and then cut back right to the exact same scene.

I am so on board for this. I adore the manga for this series, so I was a bit nervous about seeing it be adapted. However, the leads do a great job. Eiji is a remarkably goofy person and it comes across here well. The short manga chapters means that you get so many quick little scenes to inject that romance into your veins. I am guessing due to how quickly they knock out chapters that we are likely to get a complete adaptation this season. I am really looking forward to it.

I couldn’t get myself to watch this all the way through. The animation looks nice and the voice actors are doing a great job, but the dynamic between our leads just reads as sexual harassment to me. I noped out after it seemed like a few scenes in a row were him deliberately goading her into flirting with him as different fetish archetypes when she was clearly uncomfortable, all under the guise of her practicing her craft. Maybe it gets better, but the main dude gave me the ick so bad I had to stop watching. On top of that, the show had a very 4koma / gag manga style of pacing that I just don’t think works as well in anime form, but that might just be my taste.

I give what I saw of the premiere a 1/5

I did not get that at all to be honest. Like 0%. To me that was just playful flirting by both sides and clearly innitiated by her to begin with.

I felt like it went back and forth, but it was the catgirl scene that really poisoned it for me. She just looked so uncomfortable and like she was about to cry and he seemed to either not notice or not care.

Fair enough. That cat girl was initiated by him. But that makes it a 5 to 1 ratio. And I didn’t get the impression that she wasn’t in a position where she couldn’t simply say “no” when she really didn’t want to play that role.

“Initiated” meaning “created”, sure. But he’s often the one requesting. And just because she can say no doesn’t mean the dynamic isn’t weighted. It often felt to me like she isn’t good at saying no, and will put up with discomfort and embarrassment in order to avoid a confrontation (a common result of ask/guess cultures clashing, which I saw some of in here too)

To be clear, I do see how someone else could read things differently, but for me the impression came across so strongly, especially in that moment, that I couldn’t see anything in good faith anymore.

I just finished the manga the other day so it’s still fresh in my mind. I wasn’t expecting Hayami Saori as Nanakura but it was a pleasant surprise. She’s played a really wide range of characters so it’s fun to see her in a role that does… exactly that.

Okay, for the actual Giji Harem: CUTE! They’re both just teasing each other throughout the episode. It’s really playful and funny at times. Not much else to say yet since we’re only establishing the characters.

Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes!

She impressed me with her performance. The last time I was impressed by a VAs range was Yuuki Aoi’s double role in Boogiepop.

I was sceptical on the premise but I think I actually like this a lot. I am unsure though how long this gimmick alone can carry the narrative before I grow tired of it. I hope there will be more to this than just this one dynamic.
