I don’t really know which community to post this in, I think this is the most relevant one?
I’ve recently spent a bit more time on lemmy.world and I have to say they don’t seem super keen on removing trolls and transphobes, same for instances like lemmings.world.
The moderators seem to be perfectly aware of transphobic replies, vague threats, misinformation, and obvious trolling, yet they hardly remove any of the offending replies, and rarely if ever ban anyone. Certainly not often enough to make the network less toxic.
This post was mostly to vent, but I would also like to ask: when you report someone, who receives the report? Mods on my instance? The mods of the specific community I’m reporting from?

People spreading misinformation to erode my rights and cause violence against me is maybe slightly different from a difference in opinion. Additionally, I think the major instances (at least the general ones) should hold themselves to a higher standard than niche instances.
EDIT: Honestly thinking this is about safe spaces is very tone deaf.

EDIT: I also find their presence here somewhat disappointing. They seem very focused on being polarizing and asking people to not vote biden rather than promoting any sort of alternative, in addition to being needlessly aggressive towards anyone who disagrees with them.
I just want to inject something here.
This community and others like it exist on blahaj, because this instance focuses on the needs of trans and queer folk first and foremost. And so, trans and queer folk expressing honestly held opinions, are given space to do so.
I’ve had a chat to the lead mod of that community to address the way moderation is communicated, but I don’t plan on telling them what they can communicate. These folk are going to experience the results of the election first hand too, so I’m not going to tell them that they’re not allowed to deal with the situation in a particular way.
We have a group for armed queers here too. I’m strongly anti gun myself, but this group too is run by queer and trans folk with genuinely held beliefs trying to deal with a world that is turning against us more and more. I want them to have space that is explicitly inclusive and protective of their needs, even if I don’t agree with them, because trans solidarity is the goal.
We have several active members who are planning to vote Biden, and we’ve had at least two posts about it. I’ve often encouraged users to make a post about why they’re voting for Biden, but they’ve almost always declined, which tells me they may have just intended to argue in the comments. As long as these posts don’t defend the current system and are sensitive to the feelings of people who have lost loved ones to Biden’s policies and actions, this has always been allowed and even welcomed.
It’s a community for leftists though, so it should come from a leftist perspective. Managing a community like this is hard, because it by definition will exclude groups hostile to basic leftist theory, such as fascists, conservatives, and liberals. That’s really the intent of the community – I saw a need for a space where we’re not constantly put on the defensive.
I blocked the community mostly because I didn’t like the overly aggressive responses and the lack of any discussion around alternatives etc. but if things have changed since I blocked (which was shortly after it’s inception) then that’s good.
I feel like I’m mostly responsible for that, and I’m making an effort not to be so rude and aggressive.

If you delete the words “maybe” and “slightly” from your first sentence I will agree 100% with you. It is atrocious behaviour.
We both have different views about how instances should behave - and both have our reasons for why we think what we do. That’s cool.
My mention of “safe space” was in the context of a person who NEVER EVER (sorry for shouting) leaves said space; not in the context of said place being used as a refuge to relax, recharge, recalibrate, revitalise, be your(real)self etc.
