Trump says ‘you’re voting for the president … you’re voting for me’ when asked about vice-presidential pick

Donald Trump has said that vice presidential picks have “virtually no impact” on elections when asked about JD Vance’s fitness for office, in an apparent attempt to downplay his running mate’s role on the Republican ticket.

Trump made the comments during a combative interview at the annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in Chicago. Asked by the Fox News journalist Harris Faulkner whether Vance would be ready to take over “on day one, if he has to be”, Trump avoided answering directly and instead downplayed the significance of the Vance’s role.

Hmm. Sarah Palin is only 60. Dan Quayle is older, at 77.

But it is possible that JD, at 39, might be their illegitimate love child.

JD is doing his best to upstage that act.

Really too bad the theater went to the dreamloungers. He’s too distracted to remember his lines.

Ugh. Up until he chose Palin, I would’ve been fine with McCain winning. I was for Obama, not against McCain, and then he went and f***ed it all up.

There’s an axiom in the workplace. “A’s” hire other A’s, and B’s hire C’s. Kennedy picked LBJ, one of the savviest wheeler dealers in the Senate for his Veep; Nixon got Spiro Agnew, whose main qualification was that he was a pit bull.

Trump chose Vance and Pence for the same reason; neither could be a threat. Both took the job because they knew they’d never rise higher on their own.

There’s a non-zero chance that old, fat, hateful, felonious rapist dies in the next four years. There’s no way he could become president any other way. It’s not like the weird couch fucker had dignity before this.

Well, regardless of who Kamala taps as VP, I’m pretty sure we don’t have to worry about them fucking the couch in the Oval Office…

    So I’d say it matters.

At the end he said, “if you like me i win. If you don’t like me i don’t win.”

I was shocked that he actually appeared to be living in reality for a moment.

Clearly, the VP of an 80-year-old presidential candidate isn’t a position that might come with some authority down the road. The Oval Office couches are perfectly safe.

The VP actually has a great deal of Constitutional power already, as the Constitution declares them to be President of the Senate, with the power to cast a tie-breaking vote. Their ability to be Presiding Officer of the Senate, I would argue makes the VP more powerful than a normal Senator. The fact that modern VPs choose not to use this power, I think demonstrates that the VP actually has a lot more power than people realize.
