Why would for-profit companies in a natural monopoly EVER lower prices??? Energy, telecom, airlines… We privatized all of them and fucked ourselves over…

Privatize everything!!! The prices will get lower!!! People are so fucking dumb…

Privatized Electricity in Ontario was one more nail in the coffin of me moving to BC. Previously it was Ontario Hydro which sold to Enwin? I think. My bill went up because of new fees, one being Debt Retirement fee, which was paying off Ontario Hydros debt deficit. It rubbed me the wrong way because if you privately purchase a company you take on their debt/liabilities as part of your business strategy, forcing customers to pay your new debt when there was no alternate provider is just a horrible practise. Ontario should have forced Enwin to just absorb it as part of the takeover…Or left it public.

Public debts to support private profits! The canadian way!!

For his rich investor buddies? Lots! Greenbelt development scandal, Ontario Science Centre scandal, privatization of Service Ontario to Staples, giving Brewer’s Retail some absurd amount of money to get out of a contract 1 year early and privatize alcohol sales, scrapped paid sick days, inked a new contract with Enbridge to lock us into natural gas for many more years to come, the list goes on. Ontario is “Open for business”

Service Ontario was already largely privatized, that’s the entire reason it started. The already private drivers license offices were pulled into it and paid a commission too low to even cover their near minimum wage pay. Not disagreeing that it’s a bad move, just adding in because most people don’t realize most service Ontario workers are paid absolute garbage and treated like it by their employer.

Ford had to spend millions to get Staples to take the business after he’d already planned to take it from the existing franchisees because he leapt before he looked. Ford, being the business failson that he is, didn’t really plan this out at all.

Staples took one look at the costs and efforts involved and nope’ed out of it until Ford bribed them enough to pick it up.

          That’s the scandal.

Already partly privatized is not sufficient justification to increase privatization - It should have become less privatized, not more

I’m not entirely sure how you read that as if I was saying it was a good move. Maybe I phrased it poorly. I was trying to say privatization in the first place is why it’s in such a terrible spot by adding details people seem to be surprised by when I mention it. The entire existence of service Ontario was a shady government deal to make it look like they were adding public service while actually privatizing the majority of it.

Edit: I think it was my first sentence that was phrased poorly, I didn’t mean service Ontario already being private was the reason for the staples deal.

I think we agree: privatization means stealing from the public so that a few rich people can get richer

Still baffled how this guy keeps getting elected. Does buck a beer really resonate with anyone that has more than a high school education?

This turd has been in government for 6 years and has so little positive to show for it, and so many quality of life declines it’s ridiculous. For all the shit there isn’t even buck-a-beer to flush it down.
