There’s quite a lot of books most kids probably wouldn’t be reading, but so many are just because they are being banned. Apparently it’s been such an issue locally that my local moms for liberty groups want the school board to advise administrators to start confiscating books, which local parents ripped them a new one for even suggesting that

    A tale of two toddlers.

Little johnny decided to doink little Timmy upside his head with a nerf sword, claiming it’s ok because that’s what nerf swords are for. (Banning the likes of huck finn over a word).

So little Timmy is now bonking little johnny on the head with an actual baseball bat, because “he started it, and it’s the same thing”…

Might not be the same thing, but if we can’t talk about the fact that this got kicked off with a nerf sword, it’s not gonna get any fucking better. Tomorrow little johnny is gonna bust out a nerf gun and little Timmy is gonna go looking for a fucking howitzer…

You gotta address the god damned nerf sword. We either need a complete absence of book bans for any reason, or we need actual fucking rules on what criteria is universally accepted by everyone to ban a book. It can’t be case by case or we will invariably end up playing baseball bat vs nerf sword like a bunch of fucking two year olds.

That’s the weirdest analogy I’ve seen in a long time, but it actually makes sense.

Well, I got five kids, and I paced myself so they’re spread out over a couple decades, but I’m well aware of what the dymamic looks like at any age bracket, and politics have been slowly but surely devolving into younger and younger dynamics…

Carter era was kinda collegiate… Had some pretty big shit that got handled in a relatively adult manner…, Reagan went a little high school with the whole popularity being of utmost importance, got into the junior high “who the fuck are we trying to be” deal around the Clinton era (don’t ask don’t tell, I didn’t inhale… Dude was flippy floppy…) Bullying/crying of elementary describes the naughts well, Obama kinda broke the cycle (dude had some elementary school shit going on during his term, but the man was fond of the high ground. Didn’t like his policy or opinions, but he did a good ass job of not playing into the bullshit IMHO), but trump brought the fucking kindergarten in with gusto and it’s getting awful fucking preschool up in this bitch now…

I present it as a fairly simple analogy, but there’s a little more to it :)

What I love about this stuff is that there’s clear rules for what content gets banned for school kids and why (ie. pretty graphic, age inappropriate stuff).

Then a bunch of crazies go off the wall with nonsense.

Then we get the rationals coming in, having never read the original regulations, claiming we need clear regulations.
