Any suggestions? I tend to shy away because of how expensive they can be.

Plenty of good cheap bourbon out there:

          Cheapest, but very drinkable:

          • Evan Williams
          • Very Old Barton

A little more expensive, but amazing:

          • Buffalo Trace
          • Four Roses
          • Basil Hayden
          • 1792

About $40-$100 is the sweet spot.

          • Woodford reserve
          • high West
          • old Forester 1870, 1910, 1920

Also, an ice cube or splash of water opens up the bourbon and improves the flavor. There’s nothing uncouth about having your alcohol the way it tastes best.
