Apparently Reddit has now banned a subreddit dedicated to the Fediverse Reddit-alternative Kbin:

If you're on a centralised platform like Reddit, this is what they can do. Centralised platforms have all-powerful leaders who can do whatever they want, and you have no alternatives if you disagree.
The point of the Fediverse being on lots of servers is that each server's power is limited. If you disagree with one server's actions, you can move.
#Fediverse #Reddit #Kbin
Do remember that the OP is on beehaw.org which is NOT run by genocide denying tankies. It just runs their software and the tankies don’t have any control over that code its explained well in the docs.
and finally here’s a Raddle post with much, MUCH heavier accusations that I’m yet to fully confirm and which would make this even worse if true. Either way I’m considering Kbin more instead of Lemmy.
while i’m not sympathetic to lemmy’s moderation i happen to know about raddle, and: it’s probably worth noting that the person who runs raddle is a known, serial sockpuppeteer who has repeatedly, violently threatened and stalked users on reddit he doesn’t like and used sockpuppets to troll and harass users on raddle itself. i would accordingly not consider him a particularly reliable narrator, and heavily doubt anything he has to say about anyone. he is just not a trustworthy figure in general.
Definitely a shame to see this. But with all new communities it’s important to be vigilant for that kind of toxicity, and I’m definitely gone the moment I get a sniff of it seeping in over here. Not like reddit was any better, you could barely go a week without a random subreddit being taken over by awful people.
Thanks for the in depth links. I appreciate it. That’s unfortunate. With that, that’s the beauty of open source and having different options for instances to join. I know Beehaw doesn’t subscribe to those uh ideals. I’m also on kbin, which can interact with Lemmy and everything. I don’t know - I’m still brand new to all of this.
Can you elaborate? Genuinely. I’ve seen this take a few times now.
Here’s a Mastodon thread with the basic facts, here’s a post calling out pro-CCP moderation on Lemmy with screenshots and all, and finally here’s a Raddle post with much, MUCH heavier accusations that I’m yet to fully confirm and which would make this even worse if true. Either way I’m considering Kbin more instead of Lemmy.

Yeah that’s the beauty of federation! If you don’t like the team that runs one Lemmy instance, you can just find a different instance to use.

And that’s why I listed known facts first and that only at the end, all those claims would need independent verification

@jherazob @OverfedRaccoon So I just joined Beehaw. Isn’t that a Lemmy instance?
It is, but not run by the same people as the main one, in fact it’s run precisely by the kind of good people you’d WANT moderating your community
@jherazob That’s what I thought, and why I joined! Glad to see the confirmation.
