Right-wingers reach for these religious or moralistic justifications and laws, but Putin is probably just noticing, like many other countries, that their economy is screwed if their birth rates continue to decline. And yet the planet is screwed if we continue to increase. As climate change eats away at the habitable areas of the planet, the obvious thing is for habitable countries with declining birth rates to accept many immigrants from places climate causes people to flee from. This will help those people and help the receiving country’s economy. Unfortunately the right wing is also too wrapped up in xenophobia to accept this solution. They’d rather double down on controlling women.

I recently heard a “housing expert” say that cities have to keep growing, there’s no sustainable static level of population, and I thought “there’s better be or we’re all fucked.”

The problem with capitalism is that it only works if there’s perpetual growth, which (as many before me have pointed out) is the logic of cancer.

Economies are only screwed with declining birthrate if the goal is unlimited growth. What will happen if the trend continues is stability. Stability is bad for empire building types. It leaves less room for manipulation.

In any country with public healthcare, there is a problem with how to afford to care for the elderly when the population contains more elderly people needing expensive healthcare than working people paying the taxes that fund it. This seems like a problem that extends beyond capitalism’s growth-seeking. It’s an issue of how to achieve stability.

That is the hole you dig with the myth of unlimited growth. No doubt the correction will be somewhat uncomfortable.

New ones are born every day, as the “women’s purpose” dictates. I wish it was a generation thing, but I’m afraid it’s ingrained on a deeper level.

Awww. That sucks. I just got over it myself. Took a shit-ton of vitamin C, D, Zinc, and B-12, and binge watched Ugly Betty.

            Was rough. Hang in there!

I’ve been binge watching the fever dreams (⊙ᴗ⊙)

I’m mostly worried about my mother, I caught it from my father (somehow, after seeing him like once last week in passing) and even though he isolated from her once he knew he had it, she tested positive yesterday too, …and she’s due to go on her first big trip abroad in her ENTIRE LIFE in like 4 days to Paris (we’re a bit lower class haha), supposed to be a big special once in a lifetime treat from her daughter, planned it for a year now :-(

First time any of us have caught it too, my father is in the high risk category (twice over) so we’ve generally been careful this whole time, and we’ve been getting the boosters (ironically this year’s booster became available TODAY) but ya know it was going to happen eventually…

But enough of my story of extremely bad timing, glad to hear you recovered without and lasting negative effects :-)

Contrary to popular belief, you are actually factually spot on. It is all described in detail in soviet-era files, locked away.

Even JD Vance confirms this, ans I challenge FSB to release any documentation that disputes it.

If Putin is doing it, then Republicans are not far behind. Look for that bill that taxes single people way more.

Russia took a more original turn: as the key interest rate approached 20% APY, legislation was implemented to subsidize mortgage to people with kids (6% APY).

With rent prices soaring along (up to 75% in some places, about 40% on average year on year), housing market simply prices out everyone without kids, making living conditions way worse.

Ohh, my wife’s ex said the exact same thing to me whilst they were still married. He’s also Russian and loves Putin.

I wonder why she’s his ex now 🤔

Anyone who can look at a human being and say “this is what your just do no matter what because of what parts you have and nothing else” doesn’t see others as full people.
