This happens at the end of the game. AI Colonel and Rose mention that Shadow Moses was chosen as a template for the S3 plan because of its harshness. Rose then jokes, “I wonder if you would’ve preferred a fantasy setting?” and Colonel chuckles.

This sticks out to me, being a huge fan of fantasy games. I wonder if they just took a shot in the dark and it happened to land on me. I get similar feelings to Psycho Mantis reading our memory cards and mentioning the games we play.

Is there something else to this quote? Does anyone have any ideas on why it may have been included?

  • A lot of the endgame’s implication is that the whole game was essentially a virtual training mission. It could have originally been planned as being entirely in VR, so that they could have had the environment change to something completely wild, like a medieval fantasy setting. They opted instead to have it be “simulated reality” where just the pawns and setting changes but the “spirit” of the original Shadow Moses mission was still at the heart of it, all controlled by the LA-LI-LE-LA-LU in real life instead of VR.

I wonder if it was kind of a nod to the MGS world in general being over the top with the crazy characters, sci fi superweapons etc even though that’s the norm for the characters in series
