Our biggest fuck up in the Civil War was not hanging every single person who led the Confederacy. Can’t make the same mistake next time around.

The greatest tragedy of the Civil War was that so many good freedmen and abolitionists died in the fight against slavery and treason.

But the second-greatest tragedy of the Civil War is that not nearly enough slaver scum were shot in the process.

That would have just made martyrs out of them.

We shouldn’t have allowed any confederate officer or elected official to be part of any federal/state/local government after the war. We also should have made a federally mandated course in school that covered the causes of the war. We also should have outlawed public monuments of any traitor. Should have made constitutional amendments to get things like these done if needed.

Well, I don’t think we should have allowed the confederate states to rejoin as states for a generation or two. I dunno if you’ve spent much time in the south but I’m from here and the Confederate leaders are heroes here. Whether they’d been martyred or not wouldn’t have made a difference. Better that we’d hanged them all.
