I love horror movies, and I don’t want to filter or block this community, but 80% of the articles here are pure clickbait “top 10 horror movies you need to see” crap that you can find anywhere on the Internet.

It makes it hard to want to engage with the community when this is all it is right now.

I do appreciate that a lot I’ve seen have text of the lists they link. So I just have to read the post and not open the link.

I do agree that there are far too many click bait articles posted here though.

There are a lot of well meaning but annoying bots here who automate posting tons of links, but the problem is there’s no quality control so the good submissions get buried in a lot of low quality noise.

I dunno, I see regular interaction with the posts, so I’d say they do the job of stimulating conversation at least.

It’s something I leaned into more when the community was new as it is a handy way of getting people up speed and sparking discussion but, especially, with Halloween looming, every news outlet seems to be posting some kind of listicle and they are all feeling a bit… samey.

I did have an idea a while back for a semi-regular feature called “Build your own listicle” where someone posts a theme and we throw in suggestions to come up with our own. Partly inspired by the excellent recommendations everyone has made in replies to listicles before which are far superior to the actual article (one good thing about posting such links). So why not skip the article and jump straight to the recommendations?

edit: it’s the kind of thing being done here.
