“Any sane conservative,” as if every conservative party worldwide hasn’t been trending this way. Hey buddy? This is conservatism. This is what they’re actually about. Stop letting them invent their own reputation. They don’t give a shit about the past, they don’t give a shit about norms, they don’t give a shit about the law. They don’t mean things when they say words. It’s all just a game to seize power for the ingroup and stick it to the outgroup.
I don’t think the conservative party from where I live has shifted. They occasionally do some fishing with the far-right, yes. But no outrageous change to what they did before.
And judging by the numbers, I’d say there must have been some sane people voting Republican, too. If you have a combined >50% complete nutjobs and insane people in the population, even in the cities … you’re completely F*ed. That’d be pretty much unfixable.
