I suspect those dolls, still in the packaging, will be quite the collector’s item in the future.

You expect people to care about Wicked merchandise, misprint or not, in the future?

The value of these items isn’t purely from their rarity but also their demand. If it was Star Wars or something yeah maybe it’ll last.

You expect people to care about Wicked merchandise, misprint or not, in the future

This is such a Lemmy take. Ariana Grande is one of the biggest pop stars in entertainment, and Wicked is ONE OF THE BEST SELLING BROADWAY SHOWS EVER. Only behind the Lion King in total sales I think.

If a doll from Ariana’s dinky little Nickelodeon tv show (don’t come for me Victorious stans) is selling for this much, how much do you think her doll from Wicked is gonna sell for to the Broadway enthusiasts and Ariana stans?

Not everything is for you, but that doesn’t make it irrelevant.

No, what an utterly ridiculous lie to spread. She would never get “Korean bbq” tattooed on her hand, she’s a multimillionaire with tons of resources at her disposal to prevent a silly mistake like that. Instead, she got “small charcoal grill” instead of “seven rings”. But don’t worry, she got it fixed apparently, so it instead correctly read … “small charcoal finger grill”.

Because she’s popular right now. We’re talking about the future, do you think Wicked has the longevity of other popular franchises? Is Wicked as big as Harry Potter was? Because that has some staying power behind it.

do you think Wicked has the longevity of other popular franchises

Babes, Wicked has been a musical theatre darling since 2003. It already HAS longevity and popularity, just not in your circles. Once again, 2nd biggest Broadway show of all time, (actually of this millennium.) It’s not #1 only because Lion King has been around longer.

The Broadway Girls™️ and Broadway Gays™️ are coming for that merch, and so are the Ariana Stans. Again, look at the price of that Cat Valentine doll.

(Also, comparing Harry Potter to Wicked is funny because of how they’re two of the THE 2008-2015 Tumblr fandoms (ignoring Superwholock))

The difference is Harry Potter was an all ages international phenomenon, not just a Tumblr fandom.

So few things actually become collectibles, you’d have more luck with a beanie baby than you would this misprint Wicked merch long term.

Unfortunately it’s not a conversation, they’ve already decided their right and no amount of illumination on their obvious blindspots is gonna change that.

It’s important to figure out if the other person is really playing the same ballgame as you are. Once you realize that the rule books don’t match, it’s time to cut your losses and move on.

Took me many years to understand that, but once I did, I’ve saved so much time. For example, you might be talking to a flat-earther thinking that it’s a debate where logic and facts matter. Spoiler: it’s not. The rules aren’t what you initially thought, and there’s no way to win. You winning just isn’t in their rule book at all.

            We’re talking about the future

From the perspective of when the play got launched, we are already in the future. And it’s still massively popular. Your point?

Is Wicked as big as Harry Potter was?

Comparing just the stage plays? Definitely, it’s in fact orders of magnitude bigger.

The play is extremely popular at 21 years old. I saw it as a teenager and enjoy when bits of it come back into my mind despite never really being into it. But there definitely are people still obsessed with it. It’s a damn good play.
