Surely, a Chinese takeover of a major game publisher would warrant intervention by european government authorities.

Yeah we also just REALLY need to protect every game company at this point because Tencent seemingly has infinite pockets and China sure isn’t upset about that.

Yeah, protection from companies from hostile countries or just plain old anti-trust protection - France/EU can take their pick.

Because they’re already a major shareholder of Ubisoft. And they’re the only one willing to fork over cash for this failing company since they have a lot to lose if they let it continue its course.

Don’t forget that Epic delisted and shutdown the servers for the entire Unreal franchise that was costing pennies to run.

But also don’t forget they have no qualms with people hosting and downloading old games they no longer sell or run. Like they’re fine with the old unreal games being on the internet archive for people to download

They’ve promised not to sue people sharing Unreal 1 and Unreal Tournament(1999). They can change their mind.

id Software released the source code for Doom under a specific license. This has given birth to a wealth of commercial indie titles, the most technically impressive being Selaco, build on a fork of GZDoom called Pancake Engine.

Bungie released the code and assets for their Marathon trilogy and gave birth to a still very active modding community making full fledged fan campaigns.

If Epic wanted to full commit and release the code and assets to the games, I wouldn’t be complaining.
