I thought red food dye only came from crushed up beetles. WTF are we doing to our food?

First they came for the Red 40, then they came for the Blue 2…

Friend brought back some Twizzlers (sp?) from the US. They tasted bad and the packet said “less than 2% petroleum” which was worrying.

Comments about Red 40, the article is about Red 3 which is found in drugs like Vyvanse to foods like MorningStar Bac’n

I can’t find decent red 40 & etc. free drink options in my area so I do this recipe;

1. 3/4 of a cup of sugar to a 2quart container then stir in sugar.
2. Then do a fruit water infusion with frozen blueberries by adding half a cup of them.
3. Soak at room temperature for 2hours.
4. Scoop out the berries and top off the water to the fill line and refrigerate.
