Probably a bit of a translation issue, but if I had to guess I would think it’s the chicken version of this stuff: https://www.seriouseats.com/my-latest-obsession-pork-floss-chinese-rousong-pork-sung-pork-fu.
And it’s probably more savory than sweet, maybe more like meat filled buns. This dehydrated pork fiber is actually pretty good, but it is a little strange the first time you have it.
Savory, yes but, oh is it sweet, porksung or as sometimes called “Pork floss” is dehydrated lard mixed with sugar. It is oh so delicious but likely nothing is healthy there.
Yeah, never underestimate the amount of sugar in meat floss. But it sure is convenient for adding to ramen.
… I have been eating congee with porksung for 24 years and now live off instant ramen, how have I not combined them? Thank you!
Because doing that long-term will cause diabetes. This is a moderation only kind of thing.
Huh. Sounds nice
no nonsense here. you just haven’t heard of meat floss. it’s real trendy in China.
here’s the front of that box it has pictures.
Yeah, I’m not even sure myself what meat floss is, but I know enough about cooking to understand that it might enhance cake. Other comments mention savory cake but it could even make sweet cake better.
Also, if I had to rank cultures for their cooking skills and how advanced they are, Eastern cultures would generally be higher on that list than Western ones. And I don’t mean to say that Western cooking isn’t good, just that Eastern cultures know their shit when it comes to making delicious food.
And I’m not talking about what we (in USA or Canada, at least) normally think about when we think “Chinese food” (I’m not really a fan of that stuff tbh), but the authentic stuff. They are as different as Taco Bell vs authentic Mexican food.
Meat floss is real. Imagine fiberglass insulation made of meat that dissolves slower than cotton candy.
The 10th dentist suggests flossing with meat at least twice per day
Hey Costco literally sells a version of these buns. They’re super tasty. The chicken is just really really stringy chicken in a savory sauce. Highly recommend.
Okay, I was gonna try to say something silly, but now I’m just wondering what the actual product is and looks like…
google a “porksung bun” not the same, but I’ve seen these in the supermarket, floss is the english word for it so they are very similar.
“meat floss” is a thing. look it up real quick. is probably a bun of some kind filled with chicken based meat floss. i don’t think there’s been any translation error. just a somewhat obscure food in the West. it’s tiktok (or whatever equivalent) famous in China and other Asian countries
edit: pretty sure this is the exact product with pictures. . yep, that’s a bun with meat floss in it. the op picture intentionally doesn’t show the front of the box to make it seem mysterious.
