Robert Brooks, 43, died in a local hospital a day after a 9 December incident at the Marcy correctional facility in central New York.

Hochul said her decision to initiate the firing process of 13 correction officers and a prison nurse came after an “internal review” of the incident, of which there is video that is being reviewed by prosecutors.

“We have no tolerance for individuals who cross the line, break the law and engage in unnecessary violence or targeted abuse,” Hochul said in a 21 December statement. “I am committed to accountability for all involved.”

The New York attorney general, Letitia James, who is conducting an investigation into “the use of force by correction officers that preceded the death of Mr Robert Brooks at Marcy correctional facility”, said in a press release that her office of special investigation obtained video of the incident.

James said: “We will make the footage available to the public after Mr Brooks’ family has had the opportunity to view it.”

The Governor should not have to order them to be fired. They should be fired when they don’t show up for work because they are in jail. But I guess that’s none of my business.

Nah seems about right. “We have no tolerance for those who break the law,” speaking about a group of officers who killed a man, “therefore they’re fired!” seems about right.

I suppose it’s still early so maybe they will actually be prosecuted for murdering someone but I have my doubts.

Their unions even said it was bad so you know it’s real egregious.

They have enough evidence to terminate employment but not enough to bring charges? What the actual fuck. At a minimum, for all involved enough to be fired, Manslaughter should be applicable. Murder2 (as NY defines it) on the ringleaders, instigators, and saboteurs trying to obfuscate public accountability.

If Hochul (whom by everything I’ve seen is a great Republican governor 🤬 something smells real off with New York States Democratic party) and James don’t bring charges, couldn’t an argument be made that their culpable and then press them with manslaughter as well? Or corruption, even RICO, on the other hand?

Don’t hold your breath on the justice legal system holding itself to account. More often than not, the halls of justice is where justice goes to die. All the way to the crooked, corrupt US Federal Supreme Court on down.
