Belgium will ban the sale of disposable electronic cigarettes as of Jan. 1 on health and environmental grounds in a groundbreaking move for European Union nations.

Health minister Frank Vandenbroucke said the inexpensive e-cigarettes had turned into a health threat since they are an easy way for teenagers to be drawn into smoking and get hooked on nicotine.

“Disposable e-cigarettes is a new product simply designed to attract new consumers,” he said in an interview.

god I hope other places follow suit - they’re disgustingly wasteful. I mean, what the fuck humanity - everything about them is still perfectly usable except the coil gets (intentionally) burnt. I hate this reality…

They’re cheap(ish) and easy, just like basically everything else that’s unrepairable manufactured e-waste

This thing was also easy to use. Even modern pod systems are easy to use. Just keep an eye on the liquid level and replace the cartridge when it tastes bad.

And they’re cheaper as well, a disposable one is €10 here while containing about 2 ml of liquid. With the same stores selling refillable starter packs for €16 and 10 ml liquid for €4.

Yet I see the same people hoarding cheap cigarettes while on vacation, but refusing to twist off a cap to refill and plugging it in to charge when it’s empty, instead of tearing open a new one.

I’m using something similar, Salt+ with refillable capsules. Each capsule (coil) lasts for ~15-20ml or 1.5-2 bottles of liquid

As someone that vapes because I am hopelessly addicted to nicotine, I am so happy to hear this. These devices should have never been legal in the first place. Like you said, they are the epitome of wasteful. I know not everyone can be fucked to hand-wrap their own coils, but if you can’t manage to change out a pre-made coil, you don’t deserve to vape. The only waste from my mod is the used coils, and on a rare occasion I have to throw out a tank when it finally wears out.

Fucking insane what we do. The environment is dying but the chinese come up with disposable vapes so we make it all the rage for two years and throw tons and tons of lithium and shit in the rivers. Good fucking job humanity.

While i agree China is terrible at certain topics, this is totally the consumers fault, who the fuck buys disposable vapes and why?

I don’t vape, but got friends that do and they all have refillable ones - thata way cheaper no?

I just dont get why maybe someone cares to explain?

Lower cost of entry, and way cheaper than cigarettes. They’re also sold every where cigarettes are sold, where as ejuice/sustainable variations tend to be limited to vape/smoke shops. Addiction tends to go with the easiest way to handle said addiction, and if you need something from the corner store or gas station, it’s easier to just add a disposable to your purchase than going to a whole different shop.

Refillable vapes are cheaper by far, but a larger initial setup cost. You also need to choose from many available options on the market without necessarily understanding how they’re different and which is best for you. Easier to just pick a flavour and strength
