No need to discuss this, since this is the memeosphere or whatevs, but the term “transphobia” is headed towards the same fate that “antisemetism” is facing.
Saying genocide is bad has been getting labeled as antisemetic, which is not good, obviously. It muddies the waters, and makes discussion virtually impossible. It’s a distraction from hate against Jewish people, which is definitely real, and a problem.
Transphobia is something I would not wish upon anyone, just like any form of bigotry. It exists in multiple forms, including internalized ones. It doesn’t manifest magically when it’s internal either… It takes hearing a lot of transphobic shit for a long time for it to stick with someone in this way.
Internalized transphobia is not easy to get past for some people, and usually is only negativity towards the person feeling it, not other trans people. Most people who experience it don’t talk openly about it, and that is understandable.
I only mention this kind of transphobia to point out that it is a multi-facetted issue. Casual transphobia and outright transphobia are the usual causes for trans people to not feel accepted as they are, and can lead to people not accepting themselves. The outwardly expressed kinds are the problem, and part of the result of that problem can become an internal struggle that makes people miserable.
Re-defining “transphobia” is not a good idea, and when the definition becomes “whatever I don’t want to hear,” it resembles the current direction the word “antisemetism” is going.
Tap for spoiler
Genderqueer/trans folks are awesome. Groups are not monoliths though, and disagreements can be fine, when the goal is to help each other, or learn about experiences outside of one’s own.
are you going to explain yourself? how is transphobia redefined? receipts on when and how it happened.
Im guessing this is related to the user drag and OP is being transphobic (or GNC-phobic or whatevs since not all GNC people consider themselves trans, but transphobia is a fitting term here since trans people are hurt by it) towards neopronouns or xenogenders or at least the ones they consider “too weird”, but thats just a guess since there have been many posts and comments like that lately
oh I can theorize; I just wanted them to expand so I can specifically respond because I find using vague gestures instead of specific points rather cowardly. especially the tasteless comparison between the way Israel is using antisemitism to dismiss protests against the genocide they’re committing vs supposedly transphobia being used to dismiss protests against … I’d like to know what, exactly.
we have influential people literally calling to eradicate transgender people*. so on one side there is a party committing genocide and on another there is one that is intended to be a subject of it and the op is saying they’re doing the same thing.
* they’d say it’s to eradicate “trans ideology” but if there ever was such a thingt would have been that trans people should be allowed to exist, so same difference, I’m just not a pussy-ass bitch who hides behind sheer obfuscations like this
I don’t think this is a very confusing topic, or needs a list of examples to be brought up. Redefining what bigotry is tends to hurt those who are already being demeaned, shamed, or (in the more extreme cases) dehumanized for who they are, or who they love.
vague gestures without substance. you’re bullshitting.
One of us is bullshitting… Search “gish gallop” for more info. Sorry for taking this issue seriously, and not being a perfect mark for you to argue with online.
I do hope you understand that there’s an outside world that is affected by the internet and what is shared on it. It’s an extension of real life.
asking a single question is pretty much the exact opposite of gish gallop. I just wanted you to give me a single example dude. why did you throw that in there, it makes you look silly.
just say you have no way to show in any meaningful way that the term transphobia is used similarly to the way Israel uses antisemitism.
you know, more savvy hogs would just search Twitter or Tumblr for an annoying lib who’s trying too hard and being a woke scold and try to pretend that’s representative but you couldn’t even do that. low effort.
I would dislike looking silly online… in a meme community. 🙄
“list of reciepts” is pretty much the textbook definition of a gish gallop. You should chose actual discussion or trolling. Mixing the two is a pointless waste of your own time.
just say you have no way to show in any meaningful way that the term transphobia is used similarly to the way Israel uses antisemitism.
I do not, and that isn’t at all what the OP was about. Two separate terms eventually becoming unusable in discussion, because they’re made meaningless from use outside of what they actually mean doesn’t mean that they are the same terms, or have exact parallels outside of their fate.
Also, maybe step away from your device for a bit. I don’t think every person is either a queer/queer ally, or a conservative trying to remove basic human rights from trans/queer people. It’s not even close to true, and you implying I’m a conservative who opposes “woke,” would point to you not understanding that.
The “White Moderate” quote/speech by MLK lays out how insanely fucked up policies get passed as fine or ok. Passively. Most people are not a hairpin away from transphobic shit-slinging, or from (correctly) asserting that trans rights are human rights. It requires more energy than people with lives/families/jobs have.
I am not personally a centrist/moderate, since upholding the “status quo” currently means letting what is acceptable be pushed further and further towards conservative bullshit, including removal of rights from anyone not pre-approved by disingenuous fuckwads with a bible to thump that they never read.
“list of reciepts” is pretty much the textbook definition of a gish gallop
no it’s not. you should really look it up. also i didn’t say “list”, funny how you try to make it sound like I asked you for all instances in history where it happened, rather than my actual ask, which was any. As I said, I was ready for you to find at least one fringe example, but you didn’t even have that so… weak.
Two separate terms eventually becoming unusable in discussion
fine, I guess your antisemitism example was just a bad one then… still no idea why it’s unusable or meaningless. again, not a single instance of it being misused has been demonstrated… not to mention, just because Israel is weaponizing it, antisemitism isn’t suddenly unusable or meaningless either so I don’t even know what we’re talking about anymore.
Also, maybe step away from your device for a bit
I think my ability to do so prevents me from believing in ridiculous notions such as the term transphobia being meaningless.
I don’t think every person is either a queer/queer ally, or a conservative trying to remove basic human rights from trans/queer people
I don’t know how this isn’t contradicted by your following statements about the white moderate, centrism and upholding the status quo.
FWIW I agree with your last statements. Which was going to be my reply to the above statement: There’s no middle ground in human rights. If you’re not an ally you’re upholding the oppression.
“Reciepts” is plural, implying you need a list, but I’m not here for pedantry. Sorry for misquoting you.
I think my ability to do so prevents me from believing in ridiculous notions such as the term transphobia being meaningless.
I didn’t say that at all, and the entire OP is about trying to avoid that happening.
I don’t know how this isn’t contradicted by your following statements about the white moderate, centrism and upholding the status quo.
It isn’t? I didn’t say “yay centrists are so good.” I was pointing out that most people aren’t chronically online leftists defending human rights for all, or bigotted right-wingers that want to remove them. The centrists aren’t the entire problem, they just perpetuate it by reenforcing the status quo.
I kind of doubt you could convince anyone near the overton window of anything though, judging by how you respond with combative bullshit, before even attempting to understand where the other person is coming from.
It’s fine though… I just wish the norm was listening/reading with intent of understanding, then forming a response, rather than spinning up 40 counter-arguments in the midst of taking in what someone is saying. It’s even worse in real conversation, when someone shuts off their ability to hear words, becuase some scary word (like “socialism”) was used.
There’s no middle ground in human rights. If you’re not an ally you’re upholding the oppression.
Definitely agree there. Human rights aren’t optional or negotiable. I feel like we probably share very similar, if not the same viewpoints on most important topics.
Sorry I don’t understand the connection

Electric eel vs acoustic eel, which one sounds better?
They’re just different eels. You can play acoustic parts on an electric eel, and with piezo pickups and/or effects, you can get pretty close to an acoustic eel. However, playing death mEELtal on an acoustic eel sounds and feels wrong.
Really dropped the ball at not using Manu-Eel.
And of course Eel-Ectric
The American Red Cross recommends keeping a manual eel in your emergency kit for long-term power outages.
I think you posted the wrong image
Manueel
Elemental eels:
- Electric eel
- Fire eel
- Water eel
- Earth eel
- Air eel
- Ice eel
- Plasma eel
- Heart eel
- Poison eel
- Corrosive eel
- Exposive eel
- Nuclear eel
- Microwave eel (á la Cross Code)
(Any elements I’ve missed?)
I want my ICE eel tq.
So are you saying the manual vs electric binary is a social construct?
I said, oh, girl.
I was here for funny Eel Pics not for political discussion about transphobia q_q
The good old “Eel / Transphobia - Switcherroo”
Why do I always fall for that? :(
Sorry. Here’s another binary eel dichotomy.
One is generally louder than the other, but they’re both usually assholes.
NGL, I’ve almost lost hope 🥲
Thank you! :D

My favourite Band!
This fan decided that they went “too pop” after their 4th album, and is unable to hide the newly-found disdain for Eel.
I feel like the tiny garden eel should have known sooner, since the band’s name is an acronym for each of the bandmate’s mother’s names.
I don’t recognize a manual/electric dichotomy.
Manual/automatic and electric/mechanical are the two acceptable variations.
Not that these are the end-all of the electro-mech spectrum…
