I’m wondering if that’s possible with any desktop environment. Basically I want windows with translucent backgrounds with blurring like shown in this post; except that it always shows the wallpaper right behind the window, even if there are windows between it and the desktop. Normally with blurred background setups like that one, a window will blur the content of whatever windows are behind / beneath it.

  • It’s been a long while since I’ve used any WM that allowed overlapping widows, but AFAIK picom can be configured this way. I have some desktops with tabbed layouts, which I think with like overlapping windows, but it’s always the background when the windows are faded. I’m pretty sure I’d have set out up that way, since the other way it dumb.

    If you’re a programmer it is possible. The easiest way would be with a gnome extension IMO. It will still be a lot of work.
