After years of waiting my dream came true. A snowy owl on a lobster boat.
Snowy owls are what got me into photography. When life didn’t seem so fair, a snowy owl came along and changed my life.
I started about 6 years ago and ever since my dream has been to get a shot of one on a lobster boat. Well, today the stars aligned and I was at the right place at the right time in the universe. My dream came true.
I’ve always thought they should be called “great” snowy owls. Someone that is great lifts people up, brings them together, and gives them hope. That’s exactly what these owls do.
No way, unique to each lobsterperson?! I’m surprised they’re not all wild tie-dye designs with names boldly imprinted or something.
I was a bit surprised it was both a legal requirement and not just a good idea, and also that some of the boat had to match the buoy so you couldn’t claim whatever you felt like. In the pre-GPS and poor lens quality, it made it very helpful for people to monitor everyone’s claims and ship activities.

I couldn’t find any samples of what had to match on the boat. I did watch another video of a guy repainting his, and he was also showing there is supposed to be a breakaway link that snaps at 600 pounds to protect whales. He also showed they’re supposed to have your name and lobster license number, and he gave a pricing breakdown of buying and maintaining a fleet of buoys. There’s a lot more to these things than I’d ever imagine.
