Summary
Laura Caron, a New Jersey elementary school teacher, faces multiple sexual assault charges for grooming and abusing a 13-year-old student.
The allegations claim Caron, who befriended the student’s mother, molested the boy from age 11 to 16, including conceiving and giving birth to his child in 2019.
The case came to light after the victim’s father posted about the uncanny resemblance between Caron’s son and his own.
Those are the legal terms for different kinds of rape.
Not using the word was a choice
In jersey, they use the term sexual assault instead of rape.
Yes, a legal accuracy choice. “Rape” is a colloquial term, not commonly used in law any more. Most places name the crime “sexual assault”.

Why have this topic then?
Because that topic is the colloquial usage, not a specific instance of a legal charge.
So you’re saying The Independent shouldn’t use it at all?
Rape is an actual crime in the UK, it’s not a crime by name in New Jersey. They’re being consistent with charges based on the jurisdiction.
Ahh c’mon, men can’t be raped by a woman. If they get hard they want it right? It’s just a little molestation. It’s gotta be in the ass to be rape—and even then, they wanted it.
