Summary

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced she will not attend Donald Trump’s inauguration, stating, “I don’t celebrate rapists,” referencing Trump’s history of sexual assault allegations.

While Trump has never been convicted of rape, a jury found him civilly liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll.

Ocasio-Cortez also criticized TikTok for crediting Trump with restoring service in the U.S., calling it a propaganda move.

She warned of social media platforms being weaponized by right-wing interests, claiming they are contributing to the rise of “21st-century fascism” under the incoming administration.

Per usual, she’s probably our best hope of a high profile progressive in office (and a potential do-over of 2016 when we didn’t get Bernie if Dems get some sense).

Right on the money too about social media. I think I’m more concerned about that than I am about Trump himself. I really don’t want Zoomers to end up the next conservative generation; like the Boomers and Gen Xers who suck Reagan dick after the 80s because their misunderstanding of what actually happened during his presidency. Confirmation bias is strong and that’ll fuck the US long after Trump dies.

They need to protect her at all costs, because they will kill her.

This isn’t like a threat or a joke or something.

      Look at Fred Hampton.

Look at MLK. Look at Malcolm…

Look at RFK. The original. The dad. No brain worm (that we know about). Side note, there’s an HBO documentary series about RFK that’s fantastic. He was one of the good ones. Things might have turned out very different if not for Sirhan^2. Fucking tragedy.

      I truly fear for AOC.

This assumes a progressive candidate would win, though. Given this last election, I don’t think that’s a particularly safe bet to make. Honestly, I don’t think that anyone on the left could have won, following Biden. People were so disgusted with his performance they elected trump again, for fucks sake.

Oh I’m very much aware of the good he did - part of my job was managing the data for his family reunification efforts, to correct the damage trump did last time. He’s fucking wrong about Palestine and that’s horrifying, and he also did a whole fuckload of positive things for the US. But, critically, nobody actually cares. Nothing he did was glamorous enough to outshine that one debate performance where he had a cold, and the republicans have been so effective in poisoning fucking everything they touch that even the people who know about the positive things he did don’t care enough to turn up and vote.

It’s depressing as fuck, really. If you’re a good, but not flashy, president, it doesn’t matter. You have to be a fucking showman, otherwise you’re a milquetoast failure in the eyes of the nation.

Please don’t mention Bernie anymore. They postponed him and now he’s just too old, we need to stop with the old people. AOC is a great choice, and there needs to be full backing on that because the old corporate guard has some loser in mind, I assume.

      Probably Kamala again.

I think I am done voting for liberals. They come up with endless excuses why they cannot help the working class and when finally do anything it is to fund Israel’s genocide or to give massive wins to Republicans by banning Tiktok the day before Trump was sworn in just so he could unban it.

Gen X’er here… When '88 rolled around and Poppy Bush was running was my first election.

Kept asking the “greatest” and boomers: “So, wait, either he’s lying about his involvement in Iran/Contra, is dirty as fuck and shouldn’t be elected, or he legit had no clue, wasn’t involved, and is incompetent for a former CIA director and shouldn’t be elected. Which is it?”

Yeah dude, I’m fairly confident most of us dislike Reagan a fucking lot.

At least, most people in my generation that I hang out with, so it could be self selecting.

You’d be surprised how many people still seem to believe in Reaganomics, and far too many either forgot about Iran-Contra or still believe he was the deal maker that saved the day.

But yes, probably more boomers than Gen X. X is in a weird spot, cause the people I’m thinking of are borderline Boomers and mostly just aren’t well informed.

You’re probably right. I’ll admit it’s a self selection bias because I’m old enough to have made up my mind not to associate with people that have fundamentally different beliefs than I do.

So there are likely a lot of them, but none of them are MY friends, so it’s easy enough to believe in my little sphere.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m not exactly proud of my millennial cohort as a whole. I think on average they’re ok (Obama was a good vote and a real primary in '08) but it’s not like they don’t have their own brain rot. It’s good to have your own cool bubble to be with, though.

The male zoomers are hardcore Trumpers. Uninformed from shitty social media takes and no understanding of civics. The damage is already done.
