Country with issues in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and housing but no… the gays are the problem. I look forward to shithole small town America getting exactly what they asked for.

Plenty of petit bourgeois suburbanites and urbanites voted for this, too.

Trumpism: It’s Coming From the Suburbs

But scapegoating poor whites keeps the conversation away from fascism’s real base: the petite bourgeoisie. This is a piece of jargon used mostly by Marxists to denote small-property owners, whose nearest equivalents these days may be the “upper middle class” or “small-business owners.”

Yea. I kinda call the burns shithole small town USA, as well. Of course every spectrum voted for him but I drove through Arkansas for the eclipse and it was horrific.

I don’t even think that he cares about “the gays”, it’s pretty specifically targeted at trans and other non binary people, his coalition has quite a few openly gay men in it.

It’s the Nazi playbook. They’ll start with trans people, then they’ll move to gay people, then they’ll go after a different minority group. It will never be enough, there will always be another group they’ll blame their problems on. There must always be an “other” group for them to direct their hate and anger at and if there isn’t they manufacture one.

I was being obtuse with purpose. Most of us are pretty clued into their targets but his base blankets all of us. Sorry if that came off as shitty.

It wasn’t shitty dw. I just think it’s important to use precise language when the action is targeted at a precise group of people. It is a reality that Peter Theil is a leading right winger and Trump nominated a gay man for treasurery secretary, things have changed from the Obama era where that would have been unthinkable.

Excellent points. Though, I feel like they’re all somewhat token hires to show the world that he’s not a “bad dude”. In reality, we all know better. But you are very right. They are 100% after the trans groups. His base sees everyone as one issue where the party is focused.

Donald Trump specifically has a long history with being friends with gay men, his mentor Roy Cohn was a closeted gay man (althought it was a very open secret) who died of Aids all the time denying he was gay, there was a movie released in 2024 called The Apprentice the delves into this. There is also other media made about Cohn like the play Angels in America.

Are we shocked. It’s rhetorical question because anyone who pays attention knew this is where we are headed.
