Both “strategists” quoted in the article have very possibly the stupidest opinions on politics I’ve read in a long time. You can tell they have prior beliefs and no amount of new information will result in an update.

There is a willingness by some to find common ground with the president, as some Democrats have said there were lessons to be learned in November.

“Fighting Trump on every turn has not proven to be successful,” said Democratic strategist Jamal Simmons, echoing what other Democrats have said about their rationale for a new approach with the GOP president.

The lesson learned from the historic failure of running a centrist campaign about working with Republicans is that we should try to find common ground with even worse Republicans.

“Some rallying cries will become obvious, and others will emerge as the details and repercussions of his agenda come to light,” Mollineau added. “I know there are many in the party who don’t want to wait, but patience and intentionality might be a better play than just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.”

Throwing everything at the wall and going with whatever resonated is literally the strategy with which Republicans have been successful.

I like how practically the whole article is people who just fucked it, in absolutely historic fashion, sharing their wisdom.

I do think it’s newsworthy what they think and what’s going on with them. But you’re completely right I think, as far as the value of what they want to relay about what people really need to understand about politics. The Democrats as a whole are not great, but the professional “Democratic strategists” should have to do that Game of Thrones walk of shame and then be exiled from DC forever to start a new life as a cook, or in an auto body shop.

Exactly. Here’s an idea. How about a simple rule for accountability? If you are a high-ranking leader in the DNC or a hired consultant in an election season, and the party loses the presidency? You are ineligible to serve in such a role for the next 5 years at least. If you are holding such a role and the party loses complete control of government, a Republican trifecta? You are permanently prohibited from holding such a role.

Yes, this is a bit harsh. But the purpose of these high level positions is not to provide jobs to people or to be fair. It’s about winning elections. Sometimes there very well be elections that simply can’t be won, and this rule might throw out some reasonably qualified people. But that is simply a necessary cost to pay for holding leadership accountable. There are no shortage of potential leaders out there. There are tens of thousands of people who can work their way up to roles like this. Being at the top of political organizing should be like holding a world leader athletic position - incredibly hard to get and easy to lose. Because in politics, like in sports, winning really matters.

The problem is that the very morons who are fucking up elections left and right that are incredibly winnable, are the ones who are in charge of deciding who’s in charge of the organization. Complacency and high salaries and consulting fees regardless of whether they won or lost, are a hell of a drug.

The inability for the party to purge people who fail is a big problem. Quite obviously these are not uniquely brilliant politics-understanders, but somehow we need to keep coming back to the same people after they failed so hard we’re worried about even having another election.

Cooks and auto mechanics require competency to not hurt anyone. I suggest clothing retail or sorting recyclables.

Yeah, they decided to run around the country with the Cheney’s instead. They’re hated by the left and the right. The only thing they ran on was Jan 6th, and even liberals were probably tired of hearing about it after 4 years.

The democratic party needs to get rid of the ‘strategists’ and go back to listening to the grass roots.
