(Via the filibuster)
with the motion largely serving to get Democrats on the record as voting against a bill being framed as anti-infanticide
Democrats have routinely criticized “born-alive” bills as being redundant because killing an infant who was born alive following an attempted abortion is already illegal.
tl;dr: The bill would actually change nothing and it’s all political games.
try, try again they will. over and over and over for (hopefully only) the next two years.
Gdi I hate that the moderates might have been right about keeping that. On the other hand, not quite sure what’s keeping Republicans from circumventing the filibuster.
They leave it because they know it’s better for them to have it up. They remove it and lose power and Dems actually get stuff done and maybe people actually notice which lawmakers care about them.
Of course, as soon as the GOP is arrogant enough to believe they won’t lose power they’ll take it down first thing. Which is more likely today than it ever has been in my life.
Not even that, it’s just a matter of what’s really important. They threw out the filibuster on supreme Court appointments the instant it might’ve blocked them from appointing those who would give them more power.
So as soon as something comes up that they consider genuinely important rather than performative, it’s gone.
