GTA 5 sold for 800 million in the first day as a single player game. The multiplayer only shipped a whole year later. GTA 5s single player was a cut above the rest at the time.
My point is that it was the highest grossing game of all time within a week and none of that was because of multiplayer. It’s longevity is due to muliplayer but it was already stupidly popular before that.
