It looks at the company portion of the bar code, not the individual product.
I scanned some Kirkland products that are actually made in Canada (toilet paper, oat milk), and it simply identified that Costco is an American company.
Similarly, I scanned some made in USA but imported and rebranded by a Canadian importer spices and they show up as “this is Canadian”
I agree it still misses sometimes, but handy nonetheless. Hopefully they keep improving it. I’ve never used the barcode feature. Instead I just snap a photo.
