Summary
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor defended the judiciary’s role amid criticism from Trump allies, including JD Vance, over rulings blocking Trump’s executive orders.
She warned that court decisions remain binding, even if challenged, and stressed the importance of judicial “soft power” to uphold the rule of law.
While avoiding direct references to Trump, she noted past threats to judicial authority and emphasized that cautious, reasoned rulings are essential to maintaining democracy.
Her remarks come amid concerns over potential defiance of court rulings.
Wow she said something. Such resistance. \s
Do something. Do something real that actually challenges the mad king and his jester/would-be Fuhrer. Assert the rule of law in America and make it stick.
She didn’t get her job by smashing the system but by serving it completely and mindlessly.
The summary doesn’t do the article justice (no pun intended).
“Court decisions stand, whether one particular person chooses to abide by them or not,” Sotomayor said when she was asked about the importance of the Constitution’s separation of powers. “It doesn’t change the foundation that it’s still a court order that someone will respect at some point.”
This is brilliant.
And when she speaks of “soft power,” that’s what the judiciary is. The judiciary interprets the law for specific situations, and can overturn laws (for good or bad) - but it is not a physical or economic or legislative power.
The congress completely surrendered its power, the only thing left keeping us from autocracy is judicial branch.
Edit: we won’t get out of this without massive protests which includes vote just people but also politicians who still want to keep democracy. Robert Reich suggests April 19 as it will be 250th anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord which began the American Revolution.
We should organize next time to protest is this presidents day.

Do the other justices feel the same way though?
You’d hope so seeing as how they’ll all be out of a job if Trump gets his way.
Considering 6 of them are going to probably get sweet payouts, I don’t think they’re gonna push back that hard.
