I made a music playlist awhile back. This morning YouTube showed a message saying “1 unavailable video hidden.” You can un-hide hidden videos, which I did. Can you tell from the picture which of these three videos is no longer available*?
YouTube won’t tell you which of the videos in your playlist is no longer available. Got-damn.
*It’s the Tom Petty video, btw.
I really hate how YouTube goes scorched earth on hidden and removed videos. I already added it to my playlist, YouTube. I’m well aware of it’s contents. At least leave me the damned title so I can find it elsewhere.
I wish it would at least leave the name of the song so I could remember it and find it elsewhere. Reminds me of why I started doing bookmarks on sites like Etsy vs “favoriting”.
When it comes to music videos on youtube, it’s best to save a copy in case the video gets taken down in the future.
Unfortunately I didn’t have a desktop/notebook for about 5 years, so I couldn’t do that by my normal means. I guess I could have done screen recording while watching it.
If you’re on Android, grab PipePipe from the F-droid store. That’ll handle the mobile use case.
You can copy and paste the video URL into the Wayback Machine, if it’s decently popular there’s a good chance the title and maybe even the video itself is archived.
That is what I try to do. I search the Youtube ID and sometimes Duckduckgo will spit out a title.
By the way is there some way to search for a video title inside a long youtube playlist? I always have to resort to scrolling down a dozen times on long playlists and then use text search in the browser.
I’ve never found a way to do that, unfortunately.
