Hello PCMR community!

Of the 1,201 responses received, we as a community have democratically decided that we should not change the name from PC Master Race. I am grateful to our community for your input, as this was a difficult topic to navigate together.

If you would like to review the history of this, please check out this post here: https://lemmy.world/post/1430610

We’ll pin this post for some time and then consider adding a bullet into the sidebar for this Community to help stave off further discussions around this topic as the community has already decided collectively.

Kind regards,

The Moderator Team

The sensitivity of the R-word is just one of those idiosyncratic, virtue signaling cultural things that has become trendy in America in the past decade. Your rational reaction is fair, but it’s a moot point. The reality is, using that word prevents rational discussion, because a large enough portion of people are opposed to its use that it ends up derailing the conversation.

My recommendation is to just use moron, imbecile, idiot, stupid, braindead, troglodyte, dumbass, halfwit, simpleton, dullard, nincompoop, etc. There is no shortage of alternatives.

FYI mongoloid is also not acceptable anymore. Calling something retarded is probably marginally less offensive, but still not advisable.

I don’t think the rules about what is offensive make any logical sense, but using the R-word is not going to be the hill that I choose to die on.
