In short:

Ukraine is ready to accept an immediate 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia, after meetings with the US in Saudi Arabia.

In exchange, the US has agreed to immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance with Ukraine.

What’s next?

Washington will take the proposal to Russia, hoping to reach a full agreement.

This one has me oddly optimistic? The ball is firmly in Russia’s court to agree to a ceasefire which they do not seem interested in at all. When they turn it down it will be hard to continue to pretend they’re interested in peace. That said, I’m ready to be hurt yet again, and the realities on the ground haven’t gotten in the way of this US administration’s magical thinking to this point.

If they actually want a cease fire, it is to regroup, and reorganize their military, for another attempt, with a build-up based on what they learned from this war. They may also try putting another puppet in during the down time too. Putin, and the oligarchs, largely want to restore their empirical status, and power.

I just don’t get what a ceasefire will do, other than give everyone a break.
It feels like Trump will just use it to push for ending the war as it is and letting Russia keep what they have taken.
That is appeasement and we all swore “Never again”, so why the fudge are we letting it happen again?
