there, i said it. i know im the odd man out here but i just cant hold it in anymore. i love tv. i do not love this show.

its like depression distilled. zero positivity ever, zero joy from any character in any situation. its like watching torture porn.

i get it… it has some interesting ideas awash in a bucket of symbolism sprinkled with some of my favorite actors. it just seems like such a chore to watch not caring what happens next.

/rant

ok, go ahead, beat me up. i prolly deserve it.

All good mate. You gave it a go and that is more then what I have done to some shows.

Not every show is for every person.

Whats up with all you people throwing out these low-effort “unpopular opinion” posts across Lemmy and ending them with “go ahead and tell me I’m wrong, I deserve it”… reply bait? Some kind of trend? I’ve seen like five posts just like this across my home page over the last week

I think there is plenty of joy there. I am sorry you are not seeing it.

There are plenty of relationships that are very warming. Love is very present, family and friendship is so central.

I would say the show is way more about growing up and fighting for life than anything else.

It is a complex narrative to be fair. I see it as an allegory of how corporate life tries to destroy the relationships that help us resist their goal of total control. So yeah it’s bleak but the ‘heroes’ of the story are the ones with the most genuine relationships.

I shudder to think what Mr Milchiks home life is like.

I can see your point but I have to say some of the episodes are just shot\directed in an amazing way. I am a bit surprised in myself that the depressing nature of the show hasn’t bothered me and I think that is just because I am caught up in the story. I can’t agree with your statement about not caring what happens next. I need to know what happens to Gemma and what the hell Lumon’s end goal is.

Everything Ben Stiller touches gives me that same vibe. I think it’s just him. Like a negative energy vortex.

… that being said, I liked the first season and will rewatch it when I start season 2.
