It really sucks that the poor and working class demographics would rather vote for a party that doesn’t give a shit about them and will strip away social safety nets like healthcare and education funding. Whatever it takes to own the libs and fuck Trudeau i guess.

Poor or “working class” (fuck I hate that term), male, under 50. The most disgruntled group. Maybe it’s less pro-conservative, and more just anything-but-status-quo. Frustrating. They should have an option that is constructive instead of conservative.

You could argue the NDP has a lot of meaningful changes that could boost that demographic, in my experience social media has them tricked into thinking its other poor people or their natural fate keeping them poor, not the exploitatative practices of corporations and oligarchs.

Yeah this is the thing that really makes me hope for the demise of the current crop of Conservatives. I want a party that can offer an alternative vision to the Liberals, who can offer hope for the working class or those falling through the cracks of Liberal policies (to the extent that Conservatives do that, which is another matter). But I wish they didn’t have to give a bunch of people hope at the cost of removing rights from others, or dismantling government protections for all of us. It makes the people they’re helping feel like hating on minorities is just the price they need to pay for government support. The Conservatives are taking advantage of the poor situation of these people, and their desperation, to ram through regressive social policy. It’s devious and dangerous, and I hope they get permanently removed from the political discussion.

It’s crazy to me how many zombies we have living up here. Like, how fucking stupid do you need to be to completely ignore how shit decades of global conservative politics have been? Or to go on about living your country and being against tyranny while simultaneously simping for the obvious tyrant?

Imagine how much better life would be if the Liberals were our right wing?

My coworker was like, “in your working life you work like 40 years, you probably pay $2 million in taxes. Do you think you’re getting your moneys worth? In Canada, you are not incentivised to work, sitting at home you can make more money than working”

I had to swing the conversation back to like, how about we tax the rich instead of attacking each other. I didn’t realize how many of my coworkers were right-wing. There were more of them in tech than I thought.

Their logic is so stupid, too. “you pay $2M in 40 years and aren’t getting what we pay for, so we should vote to cut taxes so we can get even less - and let’s hope they cut it from education and healthcare like usual so when we’re old there won’t be anybody to take care of us!”

I have no idea how people with such a lack of logical and critical thinking skills end up in tech.

Conservative weren’t in power for the last 10 years. Can you explain how the ballooning cost of living is their fault, how did housing prices and rents double in your eyes?

Under Harper salaries outpaced rents, under Trudeau they did not. Interest rates have a large effect, but immigration is the difference that makes Canadians poor.

Data shows that conservatives’ biggest concern is “fiscal responsibility” but they do not care about “tariffs or annexation”. Make it make sense conservatives.

Conservatives don’t give a fuck about the economy. Research shows time and time again that progressive ideas are positive for the economy (housing the homeless, socialized healthcare, public transit, education, just to name a few examples).

They don’t care. Don’t listen to Conservatives when they tell you their beliefs. They’re full of shit. It always eventually boils down to “I want my in-group to have advantages over the out-group”. They’re not the party of “fiscal responsibility”, they’re the party of social hierarchies.

Why did housing and rents double.

Why is a hamburger at Boston pizza now 19$.

Why do we spend more on servicing the debt we accrued during this period than we spend on health transfers?

I’m not really a conservative, I just don’t believe the progressives are actually progressive, I look at their track record. Mass immigration, debt accrual, and stagnant wage gains. Carney already also removed the capital gains tax, the first thing they’ve done for the poor in my eyes that wasn’t entirely dwarfed by the rising cost of living.

The Liberal Party of Canada can hardly be called progressive, and I never implied as such. I never even mentioned the Liberals in my comment, I’m just talking about Conservatives here.

Ya fair enough. Maybe despite not forcing the Liberals hand on cutting the insane cost of living growth the NDP would actually be better, but with wanting to implement price controls I would doubt it. They don’t seem to understand how the Liberals caused it to begin with.
