I’ve decided, in my 50th year on the planet, to do something about getting fitter. I’m fit enough to do my manual labouring type job but not as fit as I’d like to be. I work in food manufacturing, which has been better for the wallet than the waistline! I’m not really one for going to the gym and I have trouble sticking with things like exercise routines. So this morning I downloaded a coaching app and started with a beginner’s workout. It turned out to be a good place to start. I wasn’t absolutely stuffed by the end of it but I definitely felt like I’d done some exercise! I’m posting about this to keep myself accountable. Hopefully I’ll be less likely to slack off!

To stick with it long term, try and focus on forming a positive habit around exercise. That means you should be enjoying it as much as possible each time. And that means you should take it easy on yourself! Go slow and light to start with, otherwise you’ll feel too exhausted/sore and won’t want to come back to it. Try listening to some music or a podcast/audiobook while you’re exercising. Pick the days ahead of time you’re going to exercise, and schedule it in. Reward yourself afterwards with a treat. Try gamifying it with Strava and sharing with friends if that motivates you. Do whatever is necessary to make the exercise an enjoyable part of your routine. The rest will fall into place once the habit is formed. Good luck!

That’s pretty sound advice. I asked myself before I started why I never persevere with an exercise regimen in the past, and I think I did what a lot of people do: start out with big goals or wanting to burn fat fast or whatever, and basically overdo it in the beginning and get disgruntled with it. I’m determined to just take baby steps this time to keep it doable.

Maybe do a weekly dance class - fun and VERY good exercise especially for older people. Could be a nice way to measure progress in the gym too.

This won’t work for everyone, but I have 2 tips:

      • make sure you do exercise that you enjoy doing. Whether that’s in the moment or afterwards. And by enjoy I mean more than a sense of feeling satisfied because you managed to exercise.
      • unless you feel injured or sick, on low motivation days the no.1 focus is getting to your place of exercise and starting your warmup. Tell yourself that if you still feel shit after completing your warmup, you’ll go home. More often than not you’ll be fine after you warm up, or you’ll be psyched even if you still feel a bit tired. Using this method I’ve never gone home but I have definitely cut sessions off early and I always leave that possibility open otherwise the mental hack wouldn’t work!

I’m not going to lie, I have zero regrets whatsoever about being in Sydney this weekend, went down to Corrimal beach with the fam and had a great time basking in the sun with short sleeves and rolled up pants…

…even though I am currently shitting myself, as I have a SMALL amount of extremely urgent work to finish this weekend, but I’d somehow left my laptop on when unplugging so it had barely enough battery left aaaaand I’ve stuuuuupidly left my charger all the way back in Melbourne…

The Targus proprietary charger from jbhifi isn’t working and my cousin’s just helped me get the USB-C one - I need just enough juice for it to synchronise the files to SharePoint for another colleague to work on tomorrow 😭 praying it’ll work

E: I GOT IT TO WORK. Crisis averted

Had bros wedding last night. Was wonderful.

Sent the parents off to an art gallery with my aunt and cousin so I get some much needed solo pool time.

It’s exhausting trying to make conversation at brekky, lunch, dinner and stuff in between.

An AA mate made me flush my weed down the toilet. Take the hit. I wasn’t smoking anyway. Fucking waste of money but it’s better than relapsing, that would cost a lot more ultimately.

Brekky at the caff. A few groceries, then i’m gonna get my arse into gear, clean the kitchen, make that fucking stew finally, go for a walk and play guitar. As always I face fucking transphobia from losers on the online meeting just as I do everywhere else pretty much online. Funny how fucking weak people are. I never experience it in person. Interestingly though immediately after I read it someone read the sickness part. This program is working for me anyway and the group are really supportive and accept me for who I am. That person will be banned. It’s just fucking frustrating. /ent rant. Today will be good a day

Hey good on you for quitting the weed! I smoked for about 20 years but about 10 years ago I had to face facts that it wasn’t doing me any favours. It’s great for some people but for me it became a big contributing factor for my anxiety disorder. Now I have no anxiety disorder and no weed and feel a lot better about myself.

Sorry you have to deal with all the transphobia. I see it as a personal decision someone has the right to make for themselves. I guess I just don’t see why people have such strong opinions about other people being trans when it doesn’t effect them and has nothing to do with them anyway.

Yeah weed hasn’t served me for a long time. I was a long time user and yes it gave me anxiety if I didn’t have to stuff to. I don’t get to laugh at stupid shit I see or think about but I can live with that.

Not to be rude, being transgender is not something people should have an opinion about or see it one way or another. Some people are born with a gender incongruence which leads to childhood and adult trauma if untreated. You wouldn’t have an opinion on something like autism of deafness and gender icongruence is the same. I didn’t make a decision other than get the treatment and live in my true gender which has been life saving. My brain doesn’t have the right organs connected to it to deliver the right hormones but luckily medical science has finally caught up with how to treat it.

Sweet! Thanks for understanding, I tried to explain it as best I could without being condescending. This is kind of a practised response of mine for allies. There’s no need for people to have this kind of understanding of it to just treat me like every other human, but it’s good for allies to know I think.

Oh man it’s over! Wagner boss is going to live in exile, which just means he’s gonna die of a 9mm hemorrhage or drink some nuclear tea in a few months. And some how, Putin lives on to fight another day. That’s underwhelming AF. Hope Ukraine made some solid gains in all the chaos.

It’s distinctly possible that Putin will die of a 9mm haemorrage or similar instead. I don’t think Prigozhin is finished yet. He still has 25,000 of Russia’s best troops on tap and loyal to him, and I believe only Gazprom has more best quality soldiers. The regular Russian army is apparently underwhelming. I do agree that the winner out of this is Ukraine. I expect to see the other oligarchs getting restive fairly soon too. I would not be Putin for quids at this stage.

He’ll probably fall out of a window. It shows that he’s an unstable leader though and it will affect the morale of their army. Ukraine is the proxy for Europe and Nato unfortunately and they understand this. We can’t afford to lose this war for various reasons and Putin needs to be removed from society

I think we are all born with a sense of song and dance an inherent part of how we communicate with each other, and as a way of expressing ourselves. The idea of judgement and “taste” is something we are taught by society to impose on ourselves and each other, and it is something that stifles and diminishes us.

Enjoy your singing, and do everything you can to ensure Tinyest has a chance to enjoy it too.

It should do, but people often use “no taste” to say that someone’s preferences or style are bad. Or possibly to imply that they are ignorant and therefore have no ability to form a judgement about what is good or bad, and that their preferences can therefor be dismissed.

For now I need to work through my backlog. It’s not huge because I don’t watch steam sales unless a mate tells me about a particular game, but it’s still sizeable. Need to get through the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro trilogy remasters. Hoping to mess around with Untitled Goose Game with the missus too if it tickles her fancy. God I can’t get used to the console controls for Terraria though.

I bought Hades since it’s on sale right now and it runs really well. I’m even getting 60 FPS at 4k (external monitor) unless the screen gets super busy, but personally I don’t notice the frames drop down to 45 or whatever except for the number itself changing. What a fantastic game on a fantastic device.

Nice! I have a windows based handheld Ayaneo 2 but I ended up installing Chimera OS which is basically a linux clone of SteamOS and it’s way better without worrying about windows breaking things etc… So far the game compatibility is great as it uses Proton like the steam deck. Handheld gaming is fantastic as you can sit on the couch like using a switch but then dock it to your tv etc… and it’s like a console.

i made it up! I love south-east asian flavours, so just a bit of the usual ginger, garlic, soy, chilli and lime to marinate.

Then, I shred up the chicken and use it in different meals: a not-at-all traditional bibimbap type dish, a salad with wombok, shredded carrot, bean sprouts, whatever I have that suits (and a lime sriracha dressing), another with quinoa, roasted asparagus, cornichon, fresh herbs (and again, lime - what can I say, I really like it).

Stuff that I can eat for dinner at home or for lunch in the office, basically.

Sometimes I’ll expand out into other Asian cuisines (I know thats so broad as to be meaningless, but you know what I mean - korean, japanese, Chinese and all their regional variations). But the good ol’ soy, ginger, garlic, chilli, sesame oil and lime is so reliable and easy and fresh.
